Hi.

This has probably been asked before but I have a question which I hope you guys could help me with.

I'm 29 and a couple of months ago I did my mod 2 on a 125 meaning I now have a restricted licence. Yes I know you should have done DAS but I didn't and its done now.

I'm looking to get my first "big bike" but I've been reading about changes to the licence restrictions. Am I correct in thinking the limit is changing from 33bhp to 47bhp?

If so would I benefit from this increase in bhp limit having already got my licence?

If that's the case then it will certainly change my thinking on which bike to get. If I can benefit from the increase I might get a Honda NC700s.

Thanks in advance.

You will not benefit. You are restricted to 33bhp for 2 years, doesn't matter about the coming changes.

Damn, that's what I feared. Will have to get the NC700 restricted then.

You won't be affected by the changes. If you were you'd have the higher bhp limit but you'd have to take another test before getting a full licence and I bet you wouldn't like that! You're on 33bhp for 2 years but at least you'll automatically get Full A after.

You could always do a quick Accelerated Access before January if you have the money, and I could be wrong here, but after January I think you could still do DAS if you have serious regrets about being restricted. Might get a 1-day DAS course with bike hire for under £300 or so.

There's always someone worse off than you - I'd quite like a 2 year restriction on a full licence. Please. Praying

You don't have an A2 licence
You have a Full A with 2-Year >33bhp restriction.
A2 is new, and different, licence category, with permanent and forever >45bhp limit.

Or just do Accelerated Access whenever you feel like it: it should still be available next year. Another £90 plus bike hire and you're done, for about what it'll cost to have a bike restricted.

Know anyone who can lend you a bike to do the tests on?
