recommend me a pallet courier please

Hey guys I'm sure I've seen a thread on here before but can't find it now, I have to move a car engine from Wakefield to Ludlow on a pallet.
currently doing the shiply thing for quotes and anyvan but getting stupid quotes so far, anyone recommend a pallet courier pref for under £100?

cant see any way of generating a quote tho, think I'm fucked to be honest as the bloke can't put it on a pallet himself as he can't find one and any of the pallet couriers I have found will supply a pallet but won't actually put the item on to it, he is working all day so nobody there to help out...

I've worked for companies linked to the last two and they are both a half decent service.

Though tell whoever it is with your engine to stop being a useless fuckwit, you can find a pallet on any industrial estate in the UK. Tell him to make sure it's a good solid one, because an engine is a heavy item and with non uniform weight distribution and it's a pain trying to move one when the pallet is falling to pieces. Also make sure he straps it properly to the pallet so it isn't going to move.

The way some people just dump a massive item loose onto a pallet and think that is good enough, can be very frustrating.

Don't expect the driver to have to sort it all out for you. I've done that work, and collecting pallets of random stuff is a massive hassle at the best of times. The amount of people who expect a driver to lift a ridiculous item onto a pallet himself and secure it all. What makes a driver different to any other person apart from the fact he has far less time to mess about? He can't magically lift a 250kg engine with his bare hands.

He will need to get a pallet truck under the pallet, so make sure the guy moves the pallet somewhere flat and where there is no gravel so he can actually move the thing, and that is isn't buried so you have to shunt 50 cars out of the way before he can get at it.

The reason pallet networks are so cheap compared to the quotes you are getting, is because handling pallets is supposed to be quick and simple, but because people don't understand material handling, then this is rarely ever the case. It also works on the principle of a kerbside delivery service, which means the pallet gets dumped on the kerb at the most convenient place the truck can stop, then you sign for it, and the driver can go. But most people don't get this, and think it should be stripped to the last component and carried to the kitchen table, up the stairs, or wherever. As if the driver has nothing better to do.

I had one guy recently who insisted I had to get his compost bin into his back garden, despite the fact it wouldn't physically go through his alleyway, front door, or garden gate, and I had already carried it all the way down his road above my head, because the truck wouldn't fit down, and the pallet truck wouldn't roll on his stupid gravel finished road.

sorted, thanks for the info guys, i decided in the end it was easier to go get the bloody thing myself as he was being a twat about it.
left ludlow at 8am went to swindon for the old george white sale, then bristol to collect some bits I had waiting there, then decided I still had time to "nip" to wakefield and get the engine so had a nice 475 mile trip in my old skoda lol, all worked out in the end and cost about £70 in fuel so about even with most of the quotes I found last night... knackered now tho
