Amsterdam tourist cannabis ban rejected by mayor

When I went earlier this year there was plenty of coffeshops with "Tourist Friendly" and "No ID Needed" on the doors....

I didn't actually do any smoking there mind, just went on massive bike rides out in the country side. I was very impressed with the place, free passenger ferries across rivers and shit. Wicked city.

Amsterdam is a great city even if you don't smoke
and its a great model for other places, even the cops are very laid back and friendly
I like it just the way it is as do most of the people that live there
and not the first time the mayor has went against the government on issues that affected Amsterdam tourism

I was there at the weekend. It was cold, wet and everywhere smelled of weed - in other words it was like being back at Sheffield Uni again.

I thought ban would go ahead, you know how stupid politicians can be when it comes to drugs.

It's nice that Amsterdam's now back on my map. I get the feeling the Mayor has only delayed the inevitable though.

Also thought it would go ahead. Nice to see a place that doesn't succumb to media pressure and stupid legislation and actually has an ounce of common sense (no pun intended)

friends from the south told me teenagers were driving around in cars tooled up and dealing weed from the cars
I hope that the rest of Holland follows Amsterdam's example and ignore this ban

Alpha 9 I lived in Amsterdam for 5 years, while it was a great place to live its very expensive
most places are €5 a pint and eating out is also expensive as to weed well most coffee shops
charge between €8 - 16 a gram thats about £7 - 14 making it £210 an ounce minimum
over here is about the same or less depending on how well you know your dealer
