How to find out who owns what land.

Neighbour is being a cunt saying the hedge opposite his house is his property. I use a gap in the hedge to shorten my walk to work by over 5 minutes on a 10 minute walk. 50% of my travel time is cut by this hedge but the guy kept blocking it up with leaves and branches and stuff and he confronted me the other day saying it was his land and the bit of land behind the hedge was his. I think this is bollocks because behind the hedge is a path which is looked after by the council, they mow it etc.

How can I find out whos land this is?

I looked on the Milton Keynes council website but not really sure what to look for. I looked in the housing and land section but it wasn't much help.

I would also say ask the Land Registry but I have no idea how to actually do that for someone else (I did look up deeds, boundaries, etc. for my own house).

Ok, turns out you can enter any address - house no. and postcode and get a title plan for £3.

A hedge is normally a boundary, so it is unlikely he owns both, but if the area beyond the hedge is common/public land and the hedge borders his property he probably does own the hedge, is it ex council?

I didn't realise you lived in MK too, there is a lot of missing info on land registry submissions in MK regarding boundaries (ie they are not marked on land registry documents) on the house build within the last 10 years with some builders

The path next to it is what know as a redway in milton keynes, the shrubbery next to redway's are maintained by the council

You can't really see from that pic but it is not really a proper hedge, just some bushes and behind is just mud which fades into grass next to the path. If he has bought it, he hasn't done anything to it.

He has put branches and stuff over the gap. Either he is a miserable busybody who just wants to piss other people off or he has a screw loose considering his house faces the other way. The only way he would see the gap is if he was looking out the kitchen window or coming out the door.

I very much doubt that is his, it's across a road and as far as I can see its a public footpath or road the other side of the hedge. If anyone owns it it would likely be the house to the right.

To be fair though, if it is owned by him, he has every right to tell you not to trespass!

There's a bloke near me who owns a small sliver of land adjoining his garage, and it happens to be a popular cut through next to a railway track from one housing estate to another. It takes off about 15 mins from a walk towards the town centre. For YEARS, I've used this cut through, no problem. Then one new years' day, this fence pops up with a gate in it. Left open...

One day the gate is locked with a small padlock. Next day I look and the fence has been pushed over. To and fro, this continues for about 18 months, whereby the bloke finally puts up a British Rail style fence you can't push over without a digger. It's a man fence. Proper goodun. And a notice showing ownership (diagram and description from land registry) on a laminated sign. The new gate is still open.

One day the gate is locked, so I go to the guy's house and say "can you open the gate please?" He said no, and sorry, but it's his land and NOT a public right of way. And that he's protecting it from falling into a public right of way by blocking access across for one day in a calendar year. Only one day - tomorrow it will be open again, most likely for a year...

Which is dandy by me! Until he sells his house!

So he might be protecting his assets in a similar vein perhaps?

Seems like a massive NIMBY to me. He probably gets loads of people walking across the front of his house and he hates it. He's a NIMFY - 'Not In My FRONT Yard'. He should fuck off.

I used to live right in the sticks, close to the Yorkshire Dales in an old farm building (three fields of dirt track to get to it!). In such a remote place, it was always pretty odd to see ramblers going past the front window. Ugh! Humans! There are more of me?!
