Anyone watch it on BBC? Was awesome especially the bit where they replicated the woodpecker's skull to drop the bulb from space. Would be great if they can use that for crash helmets

It was very interesting. I've seen a few programs along this kind of line, including the Hamsters Engineering Connections. At least I think that was what it was called.

I was thinking bike most of the way through it, that material where water just runs off. Cover the bike and the textile suits with it. Would save me a whole lot of cleaning which I dont do.

Hammond is doing some serious over time this year, he's done about 5 different series and obviously loads of TG stuff as well. Makes you wonder how much time a presenter like him even gets to spend with his family.

I am not a fan of his presenting style either but will give it a watch since it's on iPlayer

I loved watching it. There are several things there which could potential be very very useful in exceeding human potential!

The light bulb stopping from smashing is technically an easy problem to solve, doing it with a human would be harder as we have more squishy internals! Like people in car crashes don't die from impact but from organs hitting ribs and bones. Same with the brain?

Hydrophobia looks fun and useful for us in wetter climates. The blood pressure control looks pretty useful also, although nothing ground breaking just using what we already know to adapt ourselves.

Combining all of these you could probably get to a point where we could fly at much faster speeds than currently humanly possible.

Hydrophobic eggs is the next contraception treatment

The lightbulb thing - there was absolutely no need to drop it from 85,000 feet; they could have achieved exactly the same impact by dropping it from a few hundred feet. Yes, it looked cool and is sensational, but ultimately for show.

That said, I did enjoy the programme in a pseudo-scientific kind of way. That German pilot doing a Rubik's Cube at 9G was very impressive.
