another cat thread, calling bengal owners advice needed

tigga is now 4 months plus and becoming a handful
my legs look like I was an extra in hellraiser, I've taken to wearing a pair of 3/4 jogging shorts below my jeans for extra padding
I know they like climbing but every time I'm in the kitchen he jumps up to my thigh and climbs up my back
this may sound cute to non Bengal owners but I have a back tattoo that took 12 hrs that was less painful than his claws in my back with only a tee shirt on
I have only so much blood I can loose, so is there any way to stop them doing this
or do I need to invest in some bike type padded jeans and tops without resorting to full body armour

his other quirk is to jump into the fridge and sit on the middle shelf or hide at the back of it
not the first time he's been locked in the fridge for at least an hour
and even then refuses to come out without a fight
and more blood loss on my part

we have now taken to checking he's not in the room when the washing machine is getting put on
as he thinks its a big hamster wheel for him to play in, luckily the oven is out of his reach for now but he has tried
and he's not allowed in the bathroom when I have a bath as he jumps in and I end up loosing more blood

I love him to bits but I hope he calms down a bit or is this just the start

Don't know if it's necessarily a Bengal thing (though I've never had one personally). All that behaviour, including the fridge and washing machine things are exactly what ours did at a few months old. They only started calming down properly after they were spayed and allowed out the house a few months later.

Oh great, my missus is looking for one. Our other cats (4) displayed something like this behaviour. We got them loads of things to play with, made a climbing 'thing', joined cardboard boxes together with tunnels etc etc. The house is a 'kin mess but the scratching stopped, guess they just get bored.

he has lots of toys and scratching posts and things to climb, but he seems to prefer my leg
oh he has already terrorised our other two cats who are twice as big and 3 times heavier than him

my other cats all liked to jump up on things but never into the fridge

Can't help with the behavior as I'm no cat expert but good idea about checking the washing machine - also check the dryer if you have one, I had a friend whose cat climbed into the dryer.... nobody noticed until it was too late

Once they get a bit bigger, they can't dig their claws far enough into your flesh to drag themselves up properly. Same goes for the curtains and the corner of indoor walls with textured wallpaper on.

The fridge is probably a Bengal thing, they can be a bit odd in some respects. Wait until it jumps into the shower with you.

Remember they are only a couple of generations away from a fully wild jungle cat as a Grandad, so they aren't as domesticated as your run of the mill moggy.

The cat was a loon and would stalk people in the house and proper lunge at them. I laffed my ass off at this loonatic cat.

It may not work on bengals but is it worth spraying your clothes with some of the stuff you put on furniture or carpet to discourage them from clawing them?.

My moggy took to clawing the living daylights out of the bottom stair in one place i lived (whilst leaving his scratching post untouched ). I sprayed all the stairs with it and it worked. It smells ok so you won't be walking around stinking of something awful. It's called 'p1ss-off' or 'bugger off my stairs' or something similar.

Bengals have claws twice as long as domestic cats. Even with a leather glove on I had to stop rough-housing with mine. He was allowed to run up my leg though, but he learned not to do it unless I was wearing jeans.

Mine wasn't as mental as the OP's however. He never cottoned to water either, which was a little disappointing. Though I guess sharing the bath with his arse would have got tired pretty quick.

Our kitten is half bengal, she's pretty chilled for a half-breed, although she has been staying at the in-laws for the last couple of weeks while we move house, they have two older cats, and ours has taken delight in bullying them and harassing them, stalking them at every opportunity. She readily climbs legs when she knows there's chicken meat about though, and did this with the father in law plunging her claws into his tackle

I have started to hide in the kitchen to eat my crunchy nut cornflakes otherwise I just get harrassed.

Her brother who ended up with the missus' brother, however, is a water lover, and regularly dunks himself in the bath and jumps into the toilet if the lid is left up.

We just moved into a new place and from the bedroom was able to see that next door have a rabbit thats allowed to roam in the garden. How bad is it that my first thought was "I know a kitten thats going to enjoy slaughtering that..." as I can tell she is going to be a killing machine from the way she beats up her toys.

I did think about leather chap's but thats a bit extreme, I used to walk about in joggy's most of the day
now as soon as I'm out of bed its jeans over joggy's as I know as soon as I put the kettle on to make coffee
my legs are getting it
and yes I've had to stop him going into the toilet pan a few times, now the lid stays down

Hetzer, that video is was what got me interested in the Bengals
and yes very vocal, when I go for a bath he cries at the door from when I go in till I come out
same when I locked him in the livingroom last night when we were blowing shit up
I could here him from out my back door they do like company and very affectionate

much more than my other lazy fat cats that just eat & sleep all day
he's much more interactive and time consuming
but worth every minute of it
