car won and my poor little Poppy has just cost me several hundred quid for surgery, her tongue nearly got ripped out and her jaw smashed. Luckily the vets have done a fabulous job stitching and wiring her up but it was a close call, apparently the tongue can die if its injured and cats cant survive without a working tongue. I never knew that, shes not a happy chappy right now as shes on pureed food and segregated from the other cats so she can heal. Sad

eugh, if someone told me a cat would cost that much to save, it'd get a boot to the head.

Kramdra, I'll do that for much less than a vet will to put it down Wink

Pet insurance, yes....

I claimed after one of mine got smashed somehow. She had a dislocated ankle, needed to be pinned and wired, cost about £2700 all done.

At the time I just said 'fix her', didn't even consider the cost. Wasn't till the vet mentioned pet insurance I remembered I had some.

Lucky cat my brothers was crossing the road about 2 years ago when a taxi slowed down waited until the cat was in line with the wheel and sped up. Lets just say she wasn't as lucky.

I sometimes feel vets make a mint on these pity-runs.

Why not gas it, visit the local cattery on the way home pick out a little bute and you can both 'move on' together.
You make one lilttle life a million times better and save a little soul the pain of recovery. (And she will probably Miaow with a lisp now too. Did you think of that you heartless so-and-so?)

The vet will survive... There are loads of rich fermers with coos around to support the Jag and the Golf outings Razz

I saw a bloke put his foot down and swerve to hit a cat that was already running for it's life. He hit it's back end just as it got it's front feet on the kerb. The cat ran off so i followed him for a bit to get his reg then asked on facebook about the cat. Managed to find the owner and we both reported it to the police. . . .who then did chuff-all about it Evil or Very Mad

I dont have insurance , I have five cats and the insurance companies dont want to know or hike the premiums, my vet knows I dont have it and i believe this is why it was cheaper than someone else I know whos animal had similar treatment. The reason a lot of pet insurance places are talking about stopping it is because vets like garages will load costs, not all of them obviously.

Unlike certain people on here who are happy to see an animal suffer, I accept that there is a responsibility to having pets and I adhere to that.

I also believe that any person who thinks its funny to kill an animal is sick. My cat was repairable. Id not consider putting an animal down that can be saved.

Au contraire... I think a lot of insurance companies are stopping pet insurance is because it's a racket and always has been people have caught on to it and don't buy into it now.
Vets can be audited so really can only charge their proffessional fee. Normally. (That may be subjective though)
What puts people off pet insurance is that it's worthless for MOST pet things. Cut paws, upset tummy and cetera. If you add up the premiums it would be better to just keep something in a savings account for Moggy or Patch. Dobbin or Trigger are a different scenario though as large animals are much more involved.
Not putting an animal down which can be saved sounds noble but who knows what the animal lives with for the rest of it's life.
That back pain, the indigestion, the blurred vision, the deafness, the loss of sensation, the confusion caused by brain injury?
Humans don't always 'Bounce Back' from trauma and need special care in lots of cases so why are our pets different?

But I hope your little angel make a full recovery and gets over it all.
