I'm having trouble getting my bike in and out of it's steering lock. Some days it just refuses and I'll sit there for 10 minutes twiddling the key and turning the handlebars very slowly until it finds the sweet spot and goes through. Other times it's fine >.>

This morning took too long though, ended up using a combination of a kettle and spraying wd40, neither really seemed to work but a minute later it let me through. I talked about this with a mechanic once and he said it was ridiculous money to replace the block, so has anyone else had this issue?

I don't have the steering lock problem, but I do stuggle with getting my ignition switched on,I have to jiggle the key about to hit the sweet spot,so to speak.I think it is more than likely just wear and tear and age of ignition barrel.

I don't bother with the steering lock. It'll only stop the scrawniest rat-scrote anyway. There are videos of them being broken just by scrotes going monkey-mental on the bars. Rat-monkey mental.

Didn't realise they were that cheap...guy must want to charge a fortune to put it in. But it's only sore between the steering lock and off position, reckon I should just not bother?

I have this problem from time to time. Its especially bad if i've been riding in a lot of rain. A good scoosh with WD 40 and some compressed air shifts the gunk for me. Have you tried checking the steering lock lug? If someones had a go at breaking it maybe that could have done some damage.

I always use my steering lock. If my bike gets stolen I don't want my insurance company arguing I didn't take proper measures to secure it.

Do you have a 2nd key and if so have you tried it? Sometimes the key wears a bit

This +1
I had a similar issue with my bike recently, put up with it a few months then one day looked closely at the key.

It was very slightly twisted, no idea how that happened, so I dug out the spare key and no longer have the issue. The slightly tiwsted key is now the spare until I remember to get a new one cut.

First thing I did was go inside and fish out the spare xD It didn't do the job, but has done in the past so I may have bent them both slightly >_>

Used to have this on the fazer now and then. Coat the key with some oil and work it in and out of the barrel.

Looks like there are bikes that just have this problem.
Seems like it's not the key itself but the steering lock that blocks the key.
Moving the bars may help.
