My garage has no electricity and so no lighting, which means unlocking it and then unlocking bike etc can be a pain.

I always put my helmet on anyway before I go out to the garage and so to make things easy I'm thinking of just attaching a tiny LED light to my helmet, that I could attach via 3M Dual Lock.

Anyone done this? Anyone suggest anything fot for purpose?

I know there's a gazillion LED lights on eBay, but I'm sure most of them are gonna be junk!

Not tried the lamp thing, but having a similar problem I looked into a differnt solution...

You could try a car 12v battery, a solar trickle charger mounted somewhere sensible, and a 12v lamp on a switch. Would be more than enought to give you a few mins of light each day. Wouldnt have thought it would cost much on ebay and you have the advantage of being able to aim the light where you wanted rather than faffing around with a torch.

I opted for moving, which was considerably more expensive Laughing

Well for more permanent lighting I'm considering a quiet generator in the future.

But this torch idea is also for out the front where there's no lighting, to unlock garage padlock and load top box etc.

Think I may just go with this

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Mini-LED-Torch-Keyring-Keychain-Photon-Lights-Lots-of-Colours-Available-/160880904430?pt=UK_SportsLeisure_Camping_LightsLanternsTorches&var=460114738076&hash=item25753fc8ee

4 for £4.99 sounds good and a review on youtube shows they are pretty bright.

It's a wonder someone doesn't do a LED light built in to a helmet really, with a button to press for (say) 10 seconds of light.
It can be tricky sometimes even getting the key in the ignition.

I use bike headlights to see what I'm doing, or my phone's torch.

Not answering original query I know but thinking laterally wouldn't a normal torch help?

I use one like these in the garage now it's dark earlier and I see they were in Aldi on Sunday 4 November (so may be some left).

Failing that a torch to attach to your clothing rather than helmet? Thinking the old army types, updated for LED. Came across this one (there may be other types and suppliers at different prices)...

I carry one of these https://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=160915569075&index=0&nav=SEARCH&nid=54351494816

For roadside repares, I'm sure it will fit your purpose too.

These are excellent. Decent light and last a long time (year or so) on the batteries when used only for a few mins each day eg to allow you to park up. Easy to mount on a wall.

https://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/lidl_uk/hs.xsl/index_35996.htm

This is a manual on/off type. I have their version with sensor on/off (costs a couple of £ more) in the house porch and garden shed and have put one on the landing of mum's house so there is allways light if she wanders around at night - old folk do and she is 95.

If it was me I'd have the little LED keyrings you've posted but also maybe think about this for the inside of the garage:

Push light battery operated:

https://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/180865943295?var=lv<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&cbt=y

Dad used to use these before electricty down the shed. The link is an example of the first one I found, I'm sure there will be some good ones out there Thumbs Up

I got one of these, it comes with a key chain, may be useful to attach to your keys?

https://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/robbo49/LED.jpg

it's bright as fook too Twisted Evil

Uses one AAA battery and is MUCH brighter and has a more powerful beam than my 2D maglite!

its only 4" long and not very heavy.

sorry but i have something helpful to contribute!!!! (for once)

B AND Q are selling (for £10) outdoor lights. they are led and run on batteries, apprently can last 6 months on batteries if used 20 minutes per day 6 times a day.

so it might be worth getting one and using that rather than sticking stuff to your helmet.

I just use mini led torches on keyrings, they cost less than a quid. have a few kicking around
on on my keys. on in my jacket pocket and one under the seat, very handy to have a little torch
on you.

the batteries last ages and they are pretty bright for such a small torch.

as they all come from china anyway, then buy from the USA ebay, as they are cheaper

62p from ebay USA

99p fro ebay uk but sent from china

Hello, My username is walloper, I am a recovering torch-a-holic.

I have a Lenser. Quite frnkly they are shite. Look like a 'proper' torch but their light output is dismal.
I also have several Maglights also less torch than their hype suggests.
I am now on Fenix torches. They cost a bit more but superb lights.
My special special Fenix is like a Super Trooper on it's brightest setting.

For my money, I would really consider putting a length of SWA (Armoured cable, about £2/mtr for 1.5mm) to the shed/garage and fitting a PIR operated exterior light. No need to phaph about with Helmet lights or torches then.
I would guess fumbling in wet pockets with frozen hands for a torch and a feckin' key could grow old rapidly. Smile

There are more permanent methods of creating light bit expensive but nice idea especially if your headlight isn't as good as it should be; https://trailtech.net/helmet_lights.html.

I was about to suggest this, I own this chap and it's big brother the P7, without a shadow of a doubt the best torch available in the price range....
