A quick rant about Morrison's supermarket. Sorry not bike or fuel related.

Anyhow they have an offer at the moment where you spend at least £40 and get a voucher for your Xmas shop. Get 8 weeks worth of vouchers and £30 off, 6 weeks is £25 off voucher.

So 8 weeks at £40 is £320 (they know you will spend more).
The £30 back of this is 9.375%.

The 6 weeks is £240 for £25, so that's 10.417% back.

Why would I spend an extra £80 minimum to get less % back?
If someone could check my calculations but they look ok to me.

Why are they flagging this as a big bargain when it looks like they're ripping people off for two extra weeks?

...and yes I probably need to get a hobby and I'm not on mumsnet Wink

While I agree with you, They're allowed to do this.

They're giving you money back still, sure it's a con, but what isn't these days with retailers and supermarkets?

Because its not about the %, it's a trick to get you to do the shopping you were going to do anyway, but at Morrisons's so you gain your extra fiver.

Much the same as Sainsbury's scheme with the brand match voucher you could have saved shopping elsewhere. They dont lower their prices, they give you a voucher so you'll come back and get your discount next time.

It annoys me locally when they (and others) have these fuel deals but that supermarket doesn't have a filling station and you would have to drive at least 10 miles round trip to use it.

So effectively by not using it you are subsidising the supermarket profit since they have already added that 'saving' onto the price everyone pays.

I think BBC Watchdog did a segment on this, about how loyalty cards at petrol stations are a huge scam since you need to buy so much fuel at their high prices to get a meager discount, when you could just buy at the cheapest place that sells petrol and it's way cheaper overall.

I don't see what the problem is ? Confused

If you shop at Morrisons anyway and spend £40+ every week, then you're a fiver up !

Mrs B has been told to fuck that voucher stuff right off. Lidl have better quality stuff for less. They can afford to do that because they treat their employees like disposable nappies - and who wouldn't want to support that business model? It's the closest I can get to encouraging the long overdue return of the Workhouse during the magical holiday season. Christmas Hat

I guess you'd be happy with a bank if they said give me £240 and we'll give you 10% interest but give us any more and the interest is less. Economy should really work like that should it?

True, but IMHO for people who feel they are being pushed to spend extra to get some sort of reward it's not a fair or honest return.

Many people do spend that much every week anyway.

It's not that you're worse off, just not quite as well off.

There's plenty of cases where the best deals are for those that are actually spending a bit less - say deals limiting the amount you spend.
Consider like your tax code - just because you get taxed more the more you earn over it as a percentage of your salary doesn't stop (most) people wanting more money than their tax code allows.

The best thing about Morrisons is they give people a £5 voucher off a £40 shop, which is 12.5% off.

Us staff get fucking 10% off so they give the customers a bigger discount the fuckers.

Shite company to work for, I hate it. The business model is all wrong, they treat the staff like shit and everyone is stressed to fuck all the time because they've got 2 till open.

These days that's a good business model unfortunately.

It pays well, which rewards the shareholders.

The 'shareholders' of course are big institutions like banks, which we keep running with out custom.

So your own greed/laziness is directly responsible for the working conditions Razz Very Happy.

Oh and bad to work for, maybe; but the do do the best lines in pies, hot food and fresh bakery stuff of the big supermarkets Smile.

Most people will no doubt miss the odd week and end up with the six weeks by default

Morrison's customers get a slightly larger discount than the staff once a year, as part of an annual promotion at Christmas time. Staff and their families get 10% off all year round and sometimes even more. Yesterday, for instance, Morrison's staff discount was 15% and on 5th of December it will once again be 15% discount for staff.

I don't think they are particularly bad to work for. Then again, I have worked for National Tyres.

And hey, if you don't like the offers and vouchers you can always go to the corner of your street where they are handing out free money. Oh wait, they aren't!? What a cruel world we live in Wink

The vouchers I'm talking about have been out for a couple of months and are nothing to do with Christmas.

Many of the big supermarket chains have similar, limited period, promotions but they are dependent upon the customer spending a minimum amount to qualify. You guys get the discount all year round, regardless of spend.

Sainsburys near me had 24 cans of coke for £7.99

Directly to the side of it 12 cans of coke for £2.99

(Some of the 24 cans had been taken)

(People are knobs, people don't do the maths).

If I can't do the maths in my head I will use my phone, i.e. for beer/liquid volumes even simple stuff like toilet rolls is it better to buy 6 or 18. Work it out save money.

One of my neighbours is as thick as sxxt, he admitted to me he doesn't have a clue about maths. His exact words were, when I pay for something, I have no idea how much change i'll get. It was £1.25, I gave them a £5 I haven't a clue.

Most offers only save a minimal amount so I usually don't bother, I still cant believe that dishwasher tabs cost so much, recently bulk buy offers have reduced them to half price to what they normally are (as long as you buy boxes of 84!!!

Two of my house mates always complain about not having enough money. Both drive to work and are around and about in their vehicles.
Both do most of their shopping at the local co-op or the corner shop, which are a good bit dearer than the local supermarkets, the closest of which is under 15 minutes walk away.

You do need to check pack size and prices for all products, Coco pops can be cheaper to buy two of the smaller packs than a larger one, but bog rolls are cheaper in bigger packs, same as washing powder at the moment although that can change. Buying 4x single 2lt coke was cheaper than buying a 4 pack.
I always look at pack size and price, the SEL will usually tell you most of the info that you need without a calculator.

Also, for a bit better penny-pinching, I often check https://www.hotukdeals.com/ - especially for my coke zero addiction.

I used to spend a lot on them until I found out that they sell them at poundland. They're quite good too
