Black headlight covers. Legal?

Arguing about this on an S1000RR forum and a few of them are adamant that the black headlight covers are illegal, The kind that are completely black.

I've been saying that they're legal as they're not a tint. I've asked the others for written proof somewhere regarding what they're saying but none can back it up.

Of course it's illegal, stop being argumentative. It stops the light functioning and removes its visibility to other road users.

Incidentally disconnecting lights is NOT the same as removing them otherwise they wouldn't bother checking lights on an MOT.
If its fitted it should work.

Illegal. Read the 'The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989' and you'll see that the light needs to function as intended.

So what if he goes for an MOT with the headlights covered and gets a "daytime MOT" surely he can wear them then because they're masked and can't be tested.


(2) Save as provided in paragraphs (5) and (9), where a solo motor bicycle is not fitted with a front position lamp, no person shall use it, or cause or permit it to be used, on a road (other than when it is parked) between sunset and sunrise or in seriously reduced visibility between sunrise and sunset, unless a headlamp is kept lit and unobscured.

Why the fcuk make things difficult and complicated?
Simply do not cover the lights with anything or get a 'day-time' MOT (Which is the lamest fcuking thing ever with regards to motor vehicle testing.)
And it also contravenes The Rules of Real Men Act 1943 Paragraph 1 Sec. 1a (Regulation of Brown Hatter behaviour)

In a real world, (mine) anyone requesting this sort of nonsense would be walked out the back of the workshop and receive a Double Tap in the back of the hied. Mad

My daylight MOT bike has its headlight covered with solid black plastic to pass the MOT.

If the bike had a full MOT i would have thought in daylight hours its fine to have a headlight cover fitted but as soon as it become dark or the conditions change and you require a light by law you would have to remove the headlight cover.

Surely your only committing an offence when you have broken the law, i.e riding at night without a headlight.

If you was to be pulled during the day for having a headlight cover fitted it would be like being put in jail for 'thinking' about robbing a bank.
