Just a quickie...

I'm after a (official Arai) mirrored [silver] visor for my Arai lid. A while back I remember someone saying that the mirror finish wears off, and leaves a regular black tint behind? Is this so, or was it only on the iridium visors that this problem happens?

Or doesn't this problem happen at all, or I'm just chatting gobbledeegook? Laughing

Cheers, oh and the cheapest place to get one? Mr. Green

Yes, no and Ebay.

The finish can wear off some types of Iridium visors leaving just the black tint. Then some of the official Arai Iridium visors knocking about on the web claim to be not available in this country. They have a sort of laminate of mirrorized Iridium attached and say they they don't wear like the coated version.

I have only had the laminate version not the coated sort and the Iridium hasn't worn off, but it does scratch like buggery if you aren't very careful. It's ok for posing about in but for the long term a black visor looks better for a lot longer.

www.visorshop.com Ebay is cheaper if you keep an eye out.

Yeah I understand, but I'm after the mirrored sliver finish not the iridium...?

Are these ones ok or do they have the same problems?

*EDIT* My lid would look much better with a mirrored one, than a black one though. But fair point.

It's the same thing. The Official UK visors seem to be the coated version, the US/other are the laminated. The silver is just a different coloured finish.

Many thanks Thumbs Up

I may get the coated one, then I can have real nice mirror finish for a while, then when it gets tatty, I'll pull the rest of and have dark tint. Best of both Mr. Green .

Is it dark tint or light tint underneath?

Lol, boring questions I know, but its like £60: quite costly...

DaniesiFreak would you recommend dark tint or mirror, given your experience of the visors? (not bearing in mind looks, just practicallity and hassle) I mean it is really annoying having scratches on the visor?

I don't think you'd get the laminate off well enough for the visor to be viable afterwards. They are black tint underneath.

I liked and bought the blue mirror tint in the summer and it doesn't look too bad still, but it only got light usage. You can see a sort of scouring effect if you reflect the light off it. I wouldn't fancy it's chances in the winter with the road dirt/grit and it's a lot of cash for what it is.

Practicality wise, the black visor wins hands down and you can give it more abuse before it's scratched.

Ok, cheers mate Thumbs Up . Black one it is. Its not worth the hassle, getting a mirrored one, (even though they are damn cool). Plus they are cheaper.

The inserts are so annoying, they have to go.

Now, me goes off the fix the lid. Damn side clip and cover things have broke. Not a great thing considering how much the lid costed...

Inserts are too much hassle. They dont last forever. every time you take them out you get new bends/folds in them. the tint on them wears off and it becomes clear(mine does).

they made me break me lid

when i put mine in the visor doesnt close properly coz of the extra space the insert takes up

over time the visor will work out cheaper. £30 visor or 3 packs of 2 inserts. I could easily go though 6 inserts relatively quickely. a visor would last much longer, and "work" better, and be less haslsle

na ive had enough of inserts, i want better quality

Na inserts are suckey. Yeah they are cheaper in the short term and give you good results, over a long period of time they are annoying and impractical: taking them out and putting them in. And the double sided tape Mad , and the cursing and the mess, and the crap view you get out of them...

I have been meaning to get a dark visor for a long time. But now I have fixed the lid, and my insert is well and truly farked, I think a little visor treat is in order. Mr. Green
