My Nokia N8* just tried to update itself and now doesn't switch on.
Google tells me it's not that uncommon.
So going to try and get Orange to fix it.
Under the European Directive on the Sale of consumer goods the goods are guaranteed for 2 years and I shouldn't have to pay for repair - this bit...
Quote:
...You are entitled to repair or replacement of your purchase free of charge, if a defect becomes apparent through no fault of your own within a period of 2 years. Repair or replacement must take place within a reasonable period and without any serious inconvenience to you....
.

So we'll see what happens Confused

* yes, I know it's Symbian and now outdated but when I got it I went for the best camera!

Thanks for the advice.
Will go for that if given the option.
They'll probably just offer a repair though. As long as I get a replacement phone I'd be ok with that.

Sadly I think I may loose photos on the phone as in phone memory not external memory card (my bad, ought to have got bigger micro sd card).

BTW I know it's under 2 years as I'm not eligible for an upgrade on the 2 year contract.

We quoted the 2 year rule thing to Ebuyer about a graphics card that went kaput, and it worked for us.
No harm in trying, eh?!

You're actually covered for up to 6 years within the UK:

But of course it's all a bit hazy (when is it not?). The thing that annoys me about mobiles is you buy one along with a contract, surely 'fit for purpose' in that case is to last at minimum the life of the contract? I had a go about that when my missus' iPhone died 13 months after purchasing it - O2 eventually caved but also suggested speaking to apple first (their repair would take 2 weeks), apple replaced it immediately in store, despite it originally being sold by O2.

My Blackberry nuked it's self on the day I was to send it away for some money. My two year contract was up a day before.

I was fuming.
