I'm working in Tesco atm but I want out. I don't want to be stuck here like pretty much all my work mates are. I'm updating my CV atm, I'm 20 years old and I've had 6 jobs. Paper boy, clerical assistant, waiter, IBC operator (in a factory), warehouse picker, and now Tesco.

Question, should I leave paper boy in there? I don't want to come across as 'young' because I think employers will see that as a disadvantage. In my last 3 jobs I've been the youngest there by a long way (mainly because young people generally don't want to work nights). On the other hand, I was doing it for 3 years (age 13-15) and that's 3 years of experience I won't be putting on my CV.

God I hate this job hunting lark >.>

Personally I would only put it on if I was going for my first "real" job.

When you put a CV together, imagine the person reading it. It's like looking through a window of an estate agent at leaflets for houses. So get the information across that YOU want them to see first. Don't lie, but the general idea is to sell yourself up.

Paper boy is not selling 'up'.

Bullet point your strong areas. Give a couple examples of projects you've been involved with that taxed you and you felt you performed well on. At 20, you have zero experience and any employer would be looking for personality and the ability to listen and learn.

Good luck, but try and stay in your job for quite some time, less than 2 years looks bad to an employer.

Like the other posts, I wouldn't mention a paper boy job, unless you were going for your first job.

I've been the recruiter and it is a hard job.

Get someone else to read through your cv, preferably someone who is of a certain age/position in a job, i.e your parents might be suitable but they are biased, do you have a mates dad or mum who is an office manager, someone at that sort of level.

I have seen some terrible CVs with stupid mistakes, I have even seen curriculum vitae spelt incorrectly.

Just make sure your CV is good, not too long, never over 3 pages. Most that I have seen recently are 2 pages.

Ultimately every employer looks for different things, but presentation is key. List your experience and skills and whatever you do in your interviews don't slag off your old company. Always be positive and try not to be nervous, on the other hand don't be cocky.

Good luck.

If you want to post your CV on here, I can have a read through and I could make my suggestions. I'm sure there are other people on this forum who also do recruitement who also might be able to help.

The reason I've had so many jobs is because they've been temporary 1 month - 2 month kind of things. I've been working at Tesco for 1 year now, but it really is dead end for someone like me and I don't want to get stuck there.

Am I alright to PM you it when I'm done (will be a couple of days)? Don't really want to post it on a public forum.

Thumbs Up

Yes you can pm me no problems.

But if your jobs were temporary jobs, then state so. A typical interview question is why did you leave there.

Cheers Smile

Yeah I wrote that they were temporary. Would look bad coming in and out of jobs every month.

Leave out the title 'CV' or 'Resume' in my opinion.

Put your name at the top in big letters. Then describe your qualities for that particular job you're going for. Then leave out the paperboy bit, hehe. It's an advert about you, make yourself tempting to them.

So many CVs are shite, you'll easily get an interview if you do a good one.
