Hi guys. I have an l3 zxr 400, and I was wondering what I should upgrade to. The zxr's modded and I did have another bike but got rid of it as it was that or move out Wink

I want to upgrade to a bigger bike, and it has to have a good power to weight ratio, a fair enough amount of torque for overtaking easily, be able to commute but also track and be a good modding platform. My budget is 3k including insurance, and I've narrowed the list to a carb'd r6, zx7r or if I waited 6 months, 06 r6, k4 600 or k4 750. Any thoughts on each is appreciated

I'll be selling my 05 ninja 636 in a few months, want 2500 for it, with loads of trick bits and i'm in the process of doing the clearances.

Personally I'd go for the GSXR 750, you'd be almost doubling the capacity you have now!

Pretty much any sports 600+ will do the trick. Don't rule out a CBR or ZX6R, both great bikes.

The 600RR holds its price better than the rest, is made for midgets and has a completely boring power delivery.

636 of some sort, or as mentioned something bigger would be my choice. 749 if you're feeling brave (or stupid) enough to run one.

I don't feel that 400cc> 600cc is enough to make the swap worthwhile IMO. if you liked your characterful ZXR400 and are into howling Kawasaki's, then you should go straight out and hunt down a minter of a ZX7R. It's a cult bike, and has more of everything than a ZXR400, but is still as familiarly a real typical old school Kawasaki sports bike.

I havn't ridden any ZX6 newer than an J1 model, but I can't see a modern one having as much character or attitude as a nice 7R, which you would be able to pick up a fantastic example for your budget anyway.

Personally I'd rate a J ZX6 over a 7r in most areas, perhaps apart from 'character'.

The newer bikes are a big leap forward and more akin to the 400 handling wise, but with the power of an older 750. I'd say it's a decent step up personally.

I went from a ZXR400 To a ZX9R.

Was like a giant ZXR400 and suprisingly the same price to insure.

I beg to differ!
Being a giant, CBR600F and RR's are some of the only sportier bikes that fit me :/
