Who painted the tank? Why did they not use petrol resistant lacquer?
No matter how careful I am I seem to drip petrol on my tank fairly regularly, it happens. Far better to accept that the worst will happen and prepare for it. ____________________ https://www.metacafe.com/watch/1972097/how_to_behave_on_a_forum/ |

OK, more fool you, but their badly maintained pump has cost you damage, let alone the fire risk from it.
Get in an early doors written demand for compo to them, with time, date, pump number, and pictures of the paintwork. Tell them you'll be expecting them to preserve the CCTV footage, and will get them estimates for repair unless they want to deal with it themselves.
Then get it to a spray shop, ideally 2 or 3, get a quote for sorting it properly, and follow up your initial demand which they'll doubtless have ignored.
Give them another couple of weeks, follow up with a "Letter Before Action" telling them that you'll be kicking off a County Court claim unless they sort it within another 2 weeks.
Wait until the promised date then if I'm guessing right, do nothing and forget all about it start your claim. No need to get solicitors involved, it's just a straight "I suffered loss to this (documented) value due to their negligence, please tell them to make it good". ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Lemme sum this up.
You used a pump, it 'leaked' as far as you could tell. You knew this was bad for your paint so you blew it off.
You came back to the same pump and refilled, knowing that it might happen again and low and behold it did. A few drops on your tank.
IMO, (as already said) you're a fool to go back. More fool to be buying petrol when you know it could do your paint damage.
If you've know about the problem, why haven't you got it fixed?
Making Tesco pay for it is ridiculous. You will have to prove that the pump is faulty to an extent it leaks a lot.
I can't really picture how you're filling it up. You lift the pump up out after releasing the trigger, and suddenly another gush comes out? Is that even physically possible?
If you're referring to the small drops, that's normal, they're usually always a few drops.
If this is the case, it isn't Tesco's fault because this could happen at any petrol station. You're the fool who's using a paint job that isn't good enough.
Buy some lacquer, sort it out. ____________________ "Let's face it, this is not the worst thing you've caught me doing."
