Burning smell from bike after it is ridden

I have only got a 125 so a lot of the time I am riding flat out and maxing each gear out to get anywhere on open roads. I do clean the engine casing with WD40 so I have come to the conclusion that it is probably that. Does anyone else clean their engine casing with WD40 and if so do you get a burning smell?

I have checked my oil level and it is fine, I think my clutch is wearing very quickly from lots of city riding but I wouldn't of thought it would be that.

Could eb the WD40, but it should burn off after the first good ride and not smell after that. Could be just getting the oil very hot. Keep an eye on the oil level and change it regularly.

WD40 on the engine makes a lovely smell for many miles. I used to have to spray it all over my electrics (which is what it was really designed for) but lots of overspray went onto the engine.

Okay will do, I have covered nearly 2,500 miles since it was last done so I will get it changed next week. On the way home I usually full throttle it for about 8 miles on a dual carriage way so as you say it could be the oil getting very hot.

I got told to coat the bike to stop it rusting in the winter which does work well (I don't just spray the whole bike just the metal parts excluding chain obviously), I wont clean it with WD40 in the summer and see if it still smells as bad, that is if I still have it by then and I haven't upgraded to a xt 660 x or similar.

Yup Wd40 I did the exhaust cleaning method the other day with it and smelt like a chicken kebab for about 3 hours.
