ok, I've got a derbi gpr50 for comuting and just a bit of fun. (yeah I know you guys may think size is everything!!!).
Anyway, would I get really dodgy looks if I did a custom paint job on it? I was thinking black with sliver flames, or lightning bolts or something like that?

I personally think it'd look a bit daft. Flames, lightening bolts etc, imply power and speed, which is a little inappropriate in this case. But it's your ped, and if you want to do it, do it.

Scaramouche! Scaramouche!
Will you do the fandango?
Thunderbolts and lightning,
Very very frightening me.

Galileo!
Galileo!
Galileo!
Galileo!
Galileo! Figaro!

Personally I would stick clear of flames and lightning and stuff but if it is something you like fair do's Thumbs Up

I generally think flames and lightening look crap on cars and bikes. Better with race rep stickers on it.

(although who was it who called it a ped...... Twisted Evil )

its a 50cc bike!!!! Crying or Very sad

If you want to then fair enough, it's your bike and money.

Custom paint job on a 50cc does strike me as somewhat pointless and a waste of money, but as I've said it's your money to do what you want with.

Just one thing, when you start calling around to get quotes for the paintjob I'd be expecting at least some of the paint shops to laugh down the phone at you. Razz

why call around? a custom paint job is something personal that you should do yourself!!!!

(I'm a bit of an artist when it comes to it!)

was quoted about £900 to respray my car (two-pack)
did it for £200 myself!

A tin of Hammerite dashed over it doesn't give it as professional a touch. Laughing

Though I'd definately recommend if you must do it, you do it as a race replica, maybe a Honda kit as I imagine Derbi don't have thier own race team apart from the Safeway Carpark.

Yup, you'd get lots of people paying attention and looking at a 50cc with a custom paint job like that. Whilst paying attention and looking there would be lots of laughter. Laughing

Is the DT125 of Smoto bob fame a standard paint job? I think I've seen it on one in CMC in Chesterfield.

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=24985

It's the nicest subtle paint job in terms of flames and things I've seen, I think.

I think something like that would be quite a nice image to go on black though. The one I'm thinking of is from an RAF squadron badge, but I can't find it. I've looked through the crests for the squadrons and can't find it either, so I can't find it for sure.

Editted for spelling.

Actually derbi do have their own race team, you can get access to it from www.derbi.com, they're not too bad either from what I understand!

I'm confused whether to go for it or not now!
So many decisions, so little time!!!

Maybe something just subtle Confused
or......

Underlit body kit, with neon valve caps and some glow in the dark strips on the helmet??? Shocked Shocked Shocked
