HI. I have a problem with My daughters XR125 2004. I charge the battery,it starts but doesn't seem to run ok on any choke setting from cold. It then stalls, and there doesn't seem enough in the battery to start it again. Got 2 batteries..both showing over 12.7 v after charging. Could this be reg/rec prob? Thanks

If you have a spare car battery or booster starter try running the bike from that. Then, while it is running, check the voltage across the battery terminals. If it is reading about 13.5vdc or so then turn the lights on and recheck the voltage. If this drops down to say 11.5vdc then the charging circuit needs to be tested. If the volts drop momentarily then rises back to around 13.5vdc then the charging circuit would be okay.

The question about the engine stalling may well be related to a fuel problem rather than the charge circuit. It would be worth checking the fuel supply from the tank to the carb.

Could just be a knackered battery...

My XR125 was absolutey crap at starting from cold. Best way to do it was to start it on full choke, then just hold your revs on for 60-90 seconds, choke off and the bike would tick over nicely once warmed up a little.

my stater motor needed cleaning every 6 months. the bushes used to get covered in crap and stop making contact with the motor. I used to add redx in the tank every few months to keep the carb clean as well.

my 03 XR started no matter what the weather!
