Commuting on my 2009 XJ6n this morning had a few times where I'd go to change gear and the gear lever would be totally limp. As soon as I gave it a little nudge up though it would then feel normal and I could change up as normal.

Anyone know what the problem could be?

Similar thing happened to me and it wasn't nice as I tried knocking it down before a corner and it didn't shift....tried again...corner approaching...again...nothing...Hmmm ran abit wide on that lefthander. Sad
Coasted over and found the nut on the rear of the lever was missing.

In short.
Check the linkages first.
