So I'm riding to the jetwash, and I come down this road with cars parked on the other side of the road. There's this car coming the other way and there's gaps where he can pull in, but he just keeps on coming. So I slow down and eventually stop. He also slows down and eventually stops, see diagram for positions and whatnot. He then pulls up between me and the car, as there is just about enough space and gives me an earful for not letting him through. Now, I am of the opinion that this side of the road is mine and I have right of way. I tell him this and after a few minutes of arguing he proceeds to punch me in the arm. I think "right then" and get off the bike, ready to smash some stupid twat in as I am a 6"2 rugby player and I am rather perturbed. Alas I didn't get the chance as the pussy in question drives off. So, what would any of you had done? Dd I handle that right?

You have right of way, However where did you position yourself, In these situations I either position myself dead centre of the line or just to the right as to show I'm not stopping for them, Or to move right to the left and let them carry on, while I do the same, Ok if you can be sure there isn't going to be anything/anyone pulling/walking out from the left.

I would probably speak to the coach tomorrow and get taken off the wing and placed nearer fly-half if I was you.
You are obviously big enough to play they game but not yet quick enough.
Also perhaps study a bit of Feng Shwee and learn to channel your agression into housework and craft activity.

^I have an excuse. Second row lol. I was positioned right in the middle of my lane, it was pretty obvious I wasn't going to stop, it happens quite a lot on this particular road.

Theres not much you can do then but accept it as part of being on the road, Would happen in a car too.

I wouldn't let me bother me otherwise, as you did, You end up in a confrontation and the red mist descends.

Green are parked cars, red is oncoming and blue is you on the bike?

I don't see the problem. If there's enough room, move over and let him through. It doesn't hurt you one little bit and is general plain cold courtesy.

If you were sticking to the center of the lane simply because it's your lane and you wasn't of a mind to share a bit of it you might want to stop and think about that next time you take advantage of a gap you take where the car you squeeze past cannot fit, or if you ever have to filter alongside a queue of cars just over the line, or filter to the front of a queue at a junction etc.

It's all give and take innit Smile

How the hell did he manage to punch you in the arm? Once things get verbal close up this is the sort of thing you need to keep an eye out for. I'd expect this sort of moaning from a footballer. Rolling Eyes

Why didn't you move across and let him through?

You won't survive long riding round in Scarborough with that sort of attitude.

"Right of way" is a load of nonsense - You may have had implied priority, but that's down to who got to the obstruction first. The generally accepted rule is that if the obstruction is on your side and your opponent arrives at the other end the same time as you, you concede.

However, on a bike, you're thin, and can move over (if it's safe to do it) and let the other player past, freeing kittens and fluffy karma all over the shop.

What you did was be a dickhead about it. And he bested you by giving you a deadarm then scampering off like Jonathan Baker in Home Economics in the second year. The little bastard.

In my world where I think GTA is real life I would have followed him home and beat him to death with a 2ft rubber dick.

In the real world, I'd let it go.

Possibly open his door and headbutt him if you see him again.

I can't believe he punched you in the arm Laughing faggot.

If the obstruction is on your side of the road, you should ideally give way. If I was in my car I would have continued onwards and made him pull in, however on the bike I would have moved over to the left if there was enough room to do so.

If that guy punched you, did you not take his reg number?

Ah yes, and we arrive at the 'Sheep-Hurdle'......

You know, when there is a constriction... parked car, cones or whatever... its on the other side of the road, and an oncoming carf arrives at it first, so you slow to let them past..

Then TWENTY FUCKING SHEEP follow him 'through' while YOU wait!

That one really pigs me off.... follow the tail-light drivers!

Snowie came home one day ranting about this phenominia...... Apparently she'd slowed & stopped for an on coming car, and a whole que followed through; school coming out time, like fifty cars!!

In the end, she got off, pushed the bike onto the pavement, walked it up the road, then got back on! Now THERE's latteral thinking for you! The 'woman's' solution!

Me, I would have just kept edging forwards and over till they HAD to stop! Guess I'm one of the 99% of people put on this planet........

He didn't get out of the car, he just leant out the window and then disappeared round a corner before I could get the reg. What pissed me off is that he was going mental before I even stopped, I got to the obstruction first but he'd been on the wrong side of the road for quite a while before then, must have felt he had some sort of combo going.

Ah, he was one of those guys!

I used to pass one of them on my way to work in the morning, I dubbed him "stressy old man" for he had a habit of giving everyone the finger and screaming at other drivers as they passed. Car in front of SOM stopped to let me through, he would be cursing at me. You stop to let him out and get the finger and lots of crazy arm waving as thanks. if there was a narrow part of the road SOM would bully people into letting him through in his beat up transit van. Oddly enough I haven't seen SOM for some time now, I think he may have had a heart attack from all the cursing. Either that or the old bill caught up with him and took his licence away for being a douchebag.

Good thing about bikes is they fit through small spaces. Filtering - we win, oncoming cars? Move over and give a little back Wink

I often concede road position in this situation, it's just the polite thing to do.

To summarise: You wouldn't let him past even though there was enough room for two vehicles. He hits you. You do nothing about it.

Bit embarrassing kidda
