Hello,

Got my ttr250 fitted with trail wings tyres currently just wondering if they are good for snow but needs a new rear soon and any suggestion for a good tyre for snow and off roading that last good miles.

Thanks

A friend had a Trelleborg tyre fitted to the front of their XR250R and it gave really strange steering feedback.'Very vague' was how I described it after a ride.

I used Pirelli MT21s for quite a while as at the time they were the ones to use.But for a bit of all sorts of use they are still very good, with widely spaced knobs for good mud dispersal as well as good tarmac holding, even when damp.

Nowadays I use Pirelli Scorpian MT83 Enduro tyres, which are almost the same as the Metzeler 6 Day Enduro tyre.Except in price, the Pirelli being cheaper for some reason.

Tyres for the snow won't be good for other winter conditions like cold and wet for instance.

Also, you won't really get tyres that do well both on thin packed snow and loose fluffy snow.

For loose snow, go for a trail tyre with a decent bit of space to tyre ratio in the 'knobbles'. I have yet to try my sand rear in the snow, but suspect it'd be ideal until you got off the snow.

For packed snow and ice, studs are the way forward.
