Hello all;

Im currently riding on a 50cc CPI GTR and even though it is a cracking little scooter, it's factory derestricted and will happily plod along at 45mph on the flat.

Im looking for something with abit more power in order to plod along on country roads and up banks without the scooter slowing down too 20mph! I also want to ride abit further out into the country on nice days without slowing up buses on the hills!

Im open to any suggestions? From DT125 to keeway cruisers.

Cheers!

You might find a 125 a little slow on hills as well. Near me I have to be hitting 40 coming round the bend at the bottom (in a 30 zone) in order to avoid doing 25 near the top (in a 40 zone)! At least I can change down a gear to preserve the speed a little more.

You could take a look at a Suzuki VanVan.

Fairly nippy, ultra comfy, and very forgiving and fun to ride. Lots to buy at the moment on ebay, and they hold their money well.

It doesn't try to be something it's not, i.e. doesn't pretend to be a sports bike.

Unfortunately, I've just sold mine due to moving to a new job and needing the cash, but would have loved to keep hold of it.

Go for a Suzuki RV125 VanVan. Why? because I have one that's why!! Mr. Green

Love its retro stylings, does about 100mpg and will shift along nicely on NSL roads (65mph on the flat, 70mph with a good tailwind!). Perfect for commuting too. OK, so it's not the best up bigger hills but a whole heap of fun to ride. It'll go anywhere too, off road, beach, you name it. it's a such a solid little bike it's practically bulletproof. Passed my test on it last month and have no intention of swapping it for a bigger one yet!

Other half has a Suzuki GZ125 marauder. It's a bit slower than the VanVan but big advantages are the huge fuel tank - does a good 200+ miles on one tank - and a very comfy riding position. Looks and sounds much bigger that a 125 too.

Love both of these little Suzukis but the VanVan is way more fun to ride.

If I had to pick a sports 125 tho i'd go for the Honda CBR. Decent build quality & reliable.

Cbf125 or a YBR125. Both boring as hell, but reliable, economical and easy to maintain with decent resale values and cheap parts if you do fall off. If you go for the Cbf make sure you put decent tyres on it as original fitments are dangerous in my opinion (especially in the wet).

I too have a VanVan, and it's great fun to ride, but the seating position kills my knees, so I'm looking to go back to a cruiser style (yes I know some here consider cruisers gay, but I don't care :p)
Never had any knee issues with my Virago, so looking for another one of those or even maybe the Marauder...I take it they have a more feet forward control like other cruisers?

I would say the usual suspects, YBR being top choice on pure numbers......
BUT..... as it happens........

AFAIK, the CBF125 always was Made In India. Why would you think otherwise?

You've already wasted time on a tiddler, pass your tests and get something bigger.

Yep, feet position on the Marauder is pretty far forward but after a few miles you don't really notice. I find the positioning much more comfortable than the VanVan but I guess that's the point of cruisers!

You get everywhere on a VV. It has decent offroad capabilities.
And what is very rare in 125cc world it is FUN.

I've done some off road last week. Me and my friend was keeping up with very expensive and powerful KTMs.

Always wanted a DT just for the sheer mentalness of them. Had a Chinese 125 scrambler that was alright for what I paid (£600 brand new, it did come unregistered in a box though) then had a year off and got a YBR which I found did everything I needed it to while drinking petrol through a tiny straw.

Another vote for teh VanVan here.

I was in a similar situation and considered the usual CBF125 and YBF125 but preferred the solidity, looks and overall fun of the VV Thumbs Up
