Hi guys just a quick one. Cylinder head gasket went on my cagiva mito 125 1991. In process of replacing all top head gaskets and exhaust gasket. Just wondering only has 2 o rings is there a metal gasket you can get for this. Just don't know why there is only 2 o rings dose not seem right. Any suggestions

Best Regards

Gareth

The mito uses an o ring head rather than a normal type gasket. One ring seals the barrel and the other seals the outside of the head....simples......makes stripping the top end easier and less messy. You do need to make sure the seals are sitting in the grooves properly before you bolt the head down.

Thanks very strange never seen this set up with o ring as a gasket. An had that thought in mind will make sure gasket is seated right before i bolt down. Just having difficult getting the barrel nut off that holds the clutch lever on, as hardly any room to fit an spanner on. hopefully will have off tomz.

Regards

It's one of those things the more competition 2 stroke based motors used to use....indeed converting from std head gasket to o ring was a common mod on the likes of RGV 250's and rd lc's that were used for racing to cut the cost of changing head gaskets every meeting
... Also used on the pukka gp based bikes such as the Honda RS or Yamaha TZ etc. for the same reason.......and yes that nut on the back left barrel mount....bloody silly way to route the transfer ports!

Hi

Not that unusual. Aprilia RS125s use a similar setup. With the Mito getting the O rings to sit in place can be a pig of a job as Bladerunner infers.

All the best

Can see the reason behind using for cost saving as they are racing bikes. Dose the o ring gaskets last long on do they go often. Only reason my gasket went was I believe instant gasket was used from previous owner.

Hi

Big plus point is you can get away with reusing them a few times. However the O rings do eventually split (and if not properly in place they will get damaged badly when assembled). My guess would be someone reused the original ones too many times, and possibly they spotted the damage and tried to bodge it with instant gasket

All the best

Keith
