Little bleeder!!?!

Probably from a magazine or elsewhere i'd heared these were quite handy, so while on a rideout we stopped at clay cross powersports* and saw one, i fumbleed for the £10 asking price knowing(hopeing) it was a wise investment.

Now i've never bled the brakes myself but a mate came over to help once (because you can't really do it alone normaly anyway, unless your very patient or very very bored) so i knew where to find the nipples (must.. resist... makeing... comment...) and knew what to do overall.

You get the valve, two plastic tubes, one which goes to the nipple to the valve and one which goes to whatever your waste fluid is going into, also theres a few secureing clips, which you don't need but being the sort of boreing git i am i did, can't recall fancying an eye full of brake fluid though so...

The second pipe could do with being a little longer as its not very flexable and unless you have a very tall recepticle or short bike it won't reach, i just positioned an old paint tub underneeth and it was fine.

So after undoing the nut with the pipe in place the liquid creeps out to the valve, squeeze the lever (make sure the bolt IS propperly loose not like me who spent a minute wondering why it was going nowhere when the spanner moved under gravity to retighten ) the out it comes, refill with lovely brake fluid (of course you've got all your paintwork and plastics covered against with rags) and dont let the level drop past min(or you will need to do this again due to air in the system).. once youv'e emptyed the resivoir a few times and your fluid is comeing out (amazeingly) clear at the other end then your done, retighten, do the other caliper (if there is one )

So it took me on my own about 20 minutes to do it, it took longer to do it before with my mate helping.

So all in all, if your ever going to be bleeding your brakes its VERY worth while little thing to have in the toolbox, i don't think i'd want to do it again without in fact...

The fluid has not been changed for more than half a year, the difference is INSTANTLY noticeable, i was thinking the pipes were finaly knacked and was ready to pod out for braided hoses (which i'm still thinking about) dont think i'll be doing many stoppies soon but its a massive improvement

Sorry to tell you chris BUT if you had gone to a car accessory shop you can pick up the same sort of thing (brake bleeder) for £1.50 to £2.50.
Its called an "easy bleed" its an orange plastic tube with a slit cut in the side and an aluminium plug in the end.
You put the hose on your bleed nipple (or bleeding nipple if it wont move / has rounded off / snapped off)
and pump your brakes, as you pump it lets the air and the brake fluid out, when you let go of the lever it seals it-self so no air can enter the system.
exactly the same thing as the one you bought for £10 but cheaper.
Oh yes and i have one if you need to borrow it!
Why dont you ask me first!

Bah, well i did have a brief look in the place down't road, but nothing there... got it when i saw because i was going to get one mail order! it was an implulse buy what can i say...

I'm amazed how much difference the fluid being changed has made, quite worrying really when you don't notice them degradeing slowly... think i might do them more often than every 8months or so now though
