Ventured up to the NEC Motorcycle Live show today, same as most years, nice to walk around and look at and try the new bikes for size, also picked up a couple of things and saved a fair bit of money!

I got Red Route Kevlar jeans with armour for £45, Alpine stars SMX 5 boots for £120 and a HJC CL-ST lid for £50 with a iridium visor for free!

There was alot of bargains to be had, i found majority of vendors were up for haggling

Happy days

Not wishing to rain on your parade, but...

The boots can be got from £110 delivered, depending on size and colour. The lid delivered from £50, though without the free visor.
£15 more for the jeans with armour than I could find with a very quick search, to be fair!

There are lots of good reasons to go to shows - being able to try on a hell of a lot of stuff under one roof for a start.
But overall I wouldn't go purely for 'bargains' (ie, looking at the above, you were maybe £20 better off, presuming you would have gone out and got visor anyway.)

They aren't all bad.

Sometimes, when with a group of people i'm able to get some free indicators, foot pegs, grips and other small things.

Sometimes mirrors or bar end mirrors.

Stuff like this can be sold on to friends at pubs or kept for junkman parts should i ever start another project

I don't know one dealer within reasonable distance that I could of tried on all of the above, that's the main pro I guess, I'm still over the moon with my purchases

I got my Red Route jeans for £50 after trying on loads and was pleased but the main reason I went was for a day-out with my son as I don't see him so often (he's married and in the RAF).

Jeans were a bonus! Smile

I tried on a pair of red routes, and found the stitching to be not so great, to the point where it was coming away at the knees, don't think I'd trust them in an accident. They were £80 about a year ago.

I also picked up a pair of the Red Route jeans at £50.

Everything else seemed to be pretty normal retail / internet pricing which was a disapointment.

I had money in my pocket that I was prepared to spend if there were bargains. Might be different on Sunday the 2nd as they won't want to haul all that stuff back to the stores.

I've been to a BMF show and it's much cheaper, some tents being everything £10 Etc but I felt like I had to sift through the shit there! I thought the red route changing rooms were a tad weird, being led into a big room with 20 Middle Aged men in there underwear haha

there were bargains to be had on helmets and jackets, everything else was internet prices, got a pair of kevlar jeans for £50 but apart from that nothing really grabbed me as a bargain. The bikes were nice though Wink

I`ve been today, but there wasn`t many bargains to be had, so the contents of my wallet stayed put.
A lot of the helmet & clothing deals are last years/seasons stock.
I did mange to try on a few new model Arai helmets, but when I spoke to the dealers on the stands, they didn`t have any, which reinforce my suspicion of them selling last years/seasons stock.
The number of people carrying bag fulls of stuff back to the car parks was less than previous years.
I did mange to shoot a few minutes of video footage on the Gopro, and when I get chance I`ll try to make some sembelance of a video to upload

I'm under no illusion that alot of the gear was last seasons but if its mint I don't see the problem? You don't buy a new helmet every summer do you? Haha Shocked

I got a HJC fs-11 matt emblem for £100 I expected that I'd find it cheaper online when I got home but a quick search doesn't bring anything up at that price apart from the same company selling it at the same price plus delivery.
It has the air pump system which is the same technology that made me pay over the odds for a pair of reebok pump 20 odd years ago, that's progress for you.

Was going to buy a pair of winter gloves but I didn't see any decent ones with much of a discount and the cheap ones looked like something you'd buy off a market.

Personally I'd hazard a guess that you would get more bargains at a a local bike trade show than the NEC, as more people are likely to go to the NEC than the local one so prices can be upped.

Haven't been to NEC but have been to a local one, so take this as you want.

Haha if you have the money I guess! Cool

And smiler, while I see your point, on the other hand, I would of thought a big show like the NEC would result in more undercutting as there is much more stalls all selling the same things Question

I went on Saturday - bought a Shark S900C for £145, can't find it online cheaper than £199. I also bought some tarty white Spada Predator gloves for £49, which I can only find for that price without VAT.

Went yesterday.

Was a bit 'meh' for me, imagine most stuff can be found cheaper online which is where I usually go for price comparison etc then maybe go try on just seems less hassle to me than dealing with crowds and yappy vendor staff.

Glad I went at least once though probably never again, could have been out riding my bike (well more like sailing, roads are currently submerged under a few feet of water Very Happy)

Picked myself up a Shark Speed R for £235 on Sunday.

Mainly went to try it on for size, as I cant find many Shark retailers.
It's £270+ on any website I'd actually buy from, it can found for £235-240 on random websites I've never heard of.

Technically an xmas present, can't wait to bin my old G-Mac front flip. Very Happy

Then quickly left the shops area, to stop me spending a penny more! Laughing

Bought an HJC RPA10 Ben Spies for £250 inc extra tinted visor and pin lock insert which I thought was pretty good.

What sort of prices are leathers at? I'm off on Saturday, do you think you'd be more likely to get a better deal if you were to pay cash rather than card?

J&S Stands were killer last year - I managed to bag myself an alpinestars "pub jacket" for £60... turns out to be a pretty good bike jacket too, and also bagged Sartsos for £70 with armour thrown in because "I was representin" when I showed them my gravel rashed jeans. Doubt I'd go this year unless there are some really tempting deals and good bikes to sit on and go vrrooom vroom with.

Biggest steal I had was a Nicky Hayden Arai RX-GP for £450 when with black visor. Anybody know how much top drawer Arais are going for at the show?
