Hi been riding a ybr 125 on L plates for a few months now for the experience and have some questions.

I was riding a long a wet road with a speed limit of 40 so i reduced my speed to about 35mph because of the conditions.First of all i get a tailgater within 1m from my back tyre and behind that about 8 cars all****ing close together for the conditions. In front of me was clear no traffic. Its bloody embarrassing and dangerous because basically i cant brake much at all because of some *unt behind being too close and wont overtake.

Now what do i do pull over every time i get a tailgator ? it would take forever to get anywhere.

If you feel unsafe and the need to pull over when you can, then do so, it's your life, safety etc.

I would ignore them personally, I have as much right to be on the road as they do, I won't be bullied to go faster than I deem safe for me.

You do exactly the same as you do when driving a car:

Gently put the brake slow down to 25 then go back to your safe speed 35 this way you increase the distance between tailgaitor and you - this recomended procedure.

In your case the difference between the road limit 40 and your speed 35 is very small only if this bigger you can find safe place to pull over to let them pass

Nothing to be embaressed the road is for safe A to B travel if somebody wants racing they can go Silverstone.

NEVER try riding left close to the curb so that cars are tempted to squeeze and overtake you Always ride that way you own the whole lane in the middle this way they can and will overtake you only where it is space and it is safe for them and you.

I always thought the slowing down recommendation was more about increasing the distance between you and any vehicle in front, allowing you to brake more slowly and reducing the change of the tailgater running into the back of you. In my experience (in the cage, to be fair), the tailgater will just stick to your arse as you speed back up anyway.

Back from my days as a boy in blue, we always used to advice people to simply pull over and let the person('s) tailgating to pass. It's not worth the risk to yourself to try and be clever.

There is a school of thought that says to simply slow down to safe speed for the distance that the driver has behind to stop. However, at some point this is going to reduce to the only safe speed being stationary as: when you slow down, the tailgator will start to close the gap even more.

So simply, avoid the games, pull over, let them pass....

...and smile to yourself when you get 1/2 mile up the road and see they've been involved in a fender bender where they're at fault! Cool

I do pull over and let the close ones pass but as soon as i rejoin the traffic its the same story again 3 min later but with another cager i don't know it must be that they are attracted to the red L sign. Its even worse when the conditions are poor, cagers don't slow come rain or snow but I have to.

Another thing how do you gauge how fast to take a bend especially when its wet and has dead leaves on the road? Always concerned i will lose grip and skid especially on the narrow tyres the ybr have.

A roundabout outside my place of work is like a skid pan, even when dry. I have learned just to go as slow as I want around it, better than hitting the deck. A bit of courage will let you know when enough is enough (IE when the back wheel begins to go).

Not that I recommend that on every bend lol.

when you increase your speed back you increase the distance.

If he/she closes the gap do it again. It works for me have not seen many tailgaters that do not get the message after the 3rd time.

If you have somebody who is very aggressive you pull out of course and let him go, in most cases tailgaters are just lousy drivers that mean no harm.

In any case if your ride is confident they see you own the road and either will just drive behind you or overtake you when they can, which is perfectly fine with me.

Also bear in mind there is a difference between tailgator and a guy that just closes the gap so that he can overtake you, which again is fine as soon some safe distance of few meters is kept Very Happy

And I drive for 30 years so I can tell by the way you approach me for overtaking how you will do it.

There are some kind of moronic drivers/riders that think it is obligatory to cut you off immediately after overtaking. Have the cure for the morons, although it works better when I am in my 4x4, but works with bike too.

When you see the moron, just move slightly to the right before his starting to overtake you, when he is doing the overtake move back to the middle of your lane. He tries to cut you off but your position is more to the left and it does not work - the distance is safe and the moron has gone.
