Hi,
I consider a new bike as my VanVan broke 4th time recently.
The bike is for commuting and for light touring/adventure riding. Somewhere between 10-30K a year.
Are they both able to do over 100 000 miles?
People say that some honda bikes need 100K just to run engine in. Can be it true for this bikes as well?
Any ideas of comfort on over 100 miles trips on both?
Is CRF capable of motorway cruising at 70mph?
Total cost of running and insurance.
How comfortable they are for pillions?
Luggage capability?
Thanks

The CRF is a wannabe offroader with a commuter engine, therefore it pretty much fails at both.
I've had a close look at one in a dealers, and they cost 3k for a reason... They look pretty cheaply made, and I doubt it'd go for 100k without a few swingarms and subframes.
Stick with the other bike. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. In summery, mattsprattuk is a gobby little sh1tebag, dopehead tw4t, but sadly for all of us, he probably isn't THAT full of sh1te!!

CRF costs nearly 4000 and is in Adventure Bikes on the Honda site.
I don't see 4000 for a 250 that low comparing to 5300 for 700cc.
There is however a flood of the nc700S in London. LOTS of couriers ride one now. Very unlikely for couriers to get a new bike. Must be something about them.
I like the off road capability of CRF however. I know it's not a competition bike and I don't want to race. Just slowly ride through.
I can't do any off road even on NC700X version.
I'm thinking about new for durability/reliability.
BTW: The bike will be kept outside. No garage ATM. ____________________ MCForum meetup - One of the biggest motorcycle clubs in UK |

You need to work out what your priorities are. If you want a high-mileage adventure bike, neither of these are for you. The CRF will be seriously uncomfortable and vibey for long trips and the NC won't go off-road as you say.
I hate to say it, but a slightly used BMW F800GS or F650GS (depending on how much you have to spend) would suit you a LOT better if you want to tour and do some light off roading. ____________________ Riding: BMW R1150RT `02 bought mildly crashed

If you're determined to buy new, how about the BMW G650GS?
Very close to the NC in cost, features, performance and economy.
Shorter service intervals than the NC, reliability might not be as good (but we don't know, the NC is too new to tell). But it'll hold its value, it's a little lighter, and you may be able to take it offroad in the muddy end of the Sainsbury's car park. If you're serious about that, then look at the Dakar version.
They were (reportedly) selling faster than BMW could make them, but the NC has likely changed that. Have a look, say "Um, well, it's OK, but the NC700X is cheaper and has ABS and longer service intervals..." then walk towards the showroom door and see what happens. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
