I joined the M55 yesterday and sped up to 70 in the first lane. Checked my mirror, nobody there, but instead of starting to turn and doing a lifesaver, I did a lifesaver FIRST. Right there, in the blind spot, someone was watching me waiting for me making a move. I'm glad I didn't pull out, Karma for the cager for being alert and ready.

I remember thinking to myself "wow, doesn't happen often, but I better never forget to do it".

So 30 seconds later I was about to move into the third lane. Right mirror check; nobody there. Shoulder check; lo and behold, another car had just appeared out of nowhere, and I would've been squashed had I moved over.

So basically, this is just another friendly reminder to NEVER forget your lifesavers, even if you think, because of your experience, that nobody came up behind you because you were checking your mirrors regularly.

Amen.

I was on the M6 toll once, absolutely deserted so I was cruising along at 120mph in the left lane. As someone was up ahead in the distance I went to move over - and just as I did a lifesaver first a car went past at 150+.

Shocked

120 wasn't a safe speed. Tut Tut

You should have been doing 150 so he couldn't sneak up on you.

The danger in this situation is that susan boyle or gordon brown could have been in that car and you would have had a heart attack and died anyway.

A previous instructor told me to do a double take with the mirrors when moving to the right, any car moving up at speed should be a lot closer by the second look, if it's still clear, then lifesaver/move.

Lifesaver saved my life the other day too!

Pretty much the same as everyone else... About to pull into the right lane, started to accelerate, right mirror check, lifesaver, OH... there's a fucking car. Wait a miserable amount of time for his slow overtake, where I then repeated the procedure and then went 1 lane further and overtook has ass.
