Did you have a car licence prior to your bike? Probation begins with the first full licence.

Probation is not a problem then. Smile

Also, I do wonder about these mobile sites (I assume it was mobile, may be wrong). They are supposed to only backup an officers assessment but they point the things willy-nilly, blatantly abusing the operation of the equipment... Worth a go. Thinking

Probationary is the first 2 years of getting your first new licence, if you've been driving for more than that already then you are fine Very Happy

You can't argue it at all. The last time I got caught, I doubted it alot as I remember seeing the van parked up and pretty much had my face on the speedo which was reading 25mph and I was stuck behind 2 cars driven by old biddies also Laughing

I kept asking for evidence as I just didn't believe it and was seeking advice off solicitors who said it's almost impossible to get out of. The police cocked up the paperwork as they forgot they extended my "pay up" deadline, which I ended up doing in the end to avoid the hassle of court and chances where that I would lose.

Few months later I get the summons, I went to court and I argued my point explaining the situation when I was "caught" speeding but due to the fact I'd already admitted it the only thing they could do was give me the original fine and points as it wasn't my fault I'd got as far as court in the first place. I found them pretty fair tbh, £45 fine, £15 victim surcharge (makes me laugh that tbh, victim?) and 3 points.

At best you can keep demanding evidence in the hope of a cock up, but easier option is just to bite your tongue and accept there's not really any way out of it.

Rambling on abit...I've always wondered the accuracy of the handheld ones (assuming it was). They had this big deal a few year ago about if the laser being inaccurate if you moved it along the object and I was wondering if the laser was pointing at the rider rather than the bike, chances are the rider may be moving around a bit. Could this give a false reading? Confused

the only thing worse than the speed cameras are the parking enforcement cameras around westminster and the like, which do you for as much as thinking about stopping on a yellow line.

Got done for being parked on a double yellow at 3am in Westminster because I stopped to get a map out my topbox, they managed to get a shot of the bike where i'd walked down the road to check the street name and argued i'd left the bike there. Cunts.

Cost me £65 as well which is like arguing what I did was £5 more grevious a crime than speeding.

You really need to find out what type they used, certain ones you can gather evidence against them and get it thrown out.

If it clocked you at 86 I bet the speedo said 90 so you are a very naughty boy anyway.

They plaster those signs all over the place so their presence means next to nothing. You're about as likely to see a mobile speed trap on a road without the warning signs as you are with.

At best you can keep demanding evidence

You can ask for photographs that might assist in identifying the rider, prior to COFP stage.

You are NOT entitled to any "evidence" unless you plead not guilty. And be aware that asking them for such "evidence" will likely result in the fuckers pulling the drawbridge up and charging you with failure to furnish.

Remember, it isn't up to them to prove it was you speeding, it's up to you to admit it, or else.

There should never be "Safety Cameras" on NSL 70mph roads. You are not likely to find a kid in the road on the A5.

How?

How does it distinguish between a good and bad driver?
How does it get the tailgater?
How does it stop the drunken/drugged driver?

So many questions, are these cameras magic?

If by shit drivers you mean those that don't spot something hidden or poking through a gap in some trees then they'll be hard to tell apart from good drivers.

rather than speeders, you cut that from my quote. If your going to speed, you need to be sure you can spot cameras, or dont bother speeding.

You dont agree that speed cameras are a big deterrant to many, many shit drivers? how bad would the roads be if everyone was speeding while being distracted, doing whatever they do while driving their safe cages? there are a lot of people with speeding fines and a very big proportion are poor drivers.

Define 'shit driver?'
I havent had a crash since getting my drivers license 14 years ago, I think that makes me - not a shit driver, but i have had about 3 speed tickets over the years, and every one of them a van. Does that mean I am a shit driver in your book?
I am on the road a lot and witness lots of bad driving, mostly by people going too slowly, which makes the people behind do crazy overtakes where it isn't safe to do so. That and motorway middle lane hoggers I would say is much more unsafe than someone breaking the limit on a dual carriageway in a controlled fashion.

If I was doing 46mph in a built up 30 limit with houses, schools and kids around I would hold my hands up, but this section of the A5 is very fast running dual carriage with a 70 limit. There is nothing around there, I don't think there is a house in either direction for about 4 miles.
These vans do nothing for safety it's just a cash generator!
I didnt think I would find anyone on this forum siding with the speed camera! Are you a copper?

Actually it obviously meant something in this instance. If you choose to ignore the signs (or miss them through poor observation) then you should not bitch about getting a ticket imo.

If you get a ticket and can prove the Rules And Regulations For Speed Cameras were ignored (ie the camera was hidden, not in plain sight etc.) then you could get let off. As already mentioned, www.pepipoo.com is your friend in these circumstances.

The sign warns that there MAY be speed cameras operating in the area. Well, there MAY be speed cameras operating on ANY road. The sign doesn't tell us anything we don't know already, except that perhaps there may be a slightly higher (but still very remote) chance of a mobile camera operating ahead... maybe. Hindsight is 20/20, but OP wasn't to know a mobile camera was ahead (if it's anything like round here, you could pass one of those signs a thousand times and you'd be (un)lucky to see even one camera). Having said that, he doesn't appear to have spotted the camera at all so perhaps he does need to work on his obs.

And that is plain wrong. A camera doesn't have to be in plain sight, it can be hidden. Don't confuse guidelines with regulations... showing that the camera was hidden won't get you off at all.

Best thing to do is to contact the camera partnership and ask what the threshold is for an FPN.
Be polite and don't bother with excuses, just be straight with them.

"Hi, I was caught speeding by a mobile camera on the ROAD/DATE @ 86mph, can you tell me what the likely outcome of this will be? FPN or reported to the Procurator?"

I was caught at exactly the same speed on the M74, i was worrying about it until i spoke to a mate who is a traffic pig and he told me to get in touch with them.
