Will be eating some motorway miles in december and would like to keep my fingers warm!

Ive seen some oxfords bone dry muffs for 32quid at my local j&s
Also some universal hand guards for around 20 quid

Any pro's and cons of each?

Or should i splash out and get both?

Cheers

Marco

Muffs with heated grips are a better combination imo.

This.

Guards won't help much, and theres little point of combing them with muffs.

Oxford muffs aren't great.

I'd go for tuccano urbano that are overall much better.

The Oxford ones really need to be used with some kind of hand guard - otherwise they start to push back on the levers from around 60mph. I made my own guards out of some metal shelving on the ZX9 - had them around the standard enduro guards on the KTM690.

As G says. Oxford ones are shite.

I left mine on the M20. Utterly useless. The Tucano Urbanos are on my Varadero, I currently ride that on the motorway daily and have no gloves on. Wink

How about a good pair of bmw winter gloves and keeping your core warm. Neutral

I find this works well for most of my body. Apart from my finger tips and my toes.

Thermal socks and decent gloves tend to sort it though. Of course when it rains, you're fecked either way unless you're sporting waterproofs.

I've got a pair of sealskin socks, and they are insanely good.
Not sure if they do an equivalent in gloves. I used to wear them when green lane riding as they are 100% waterproof.

Just had my TU muffs today (great timing) so I will let you know how good they are. If they are rubbish I hold this forum to blame lol.

I have a set of cheap noname muffs on the beemer, do a great job of keeping my hands from freezing. Even better when I turn on the heated grips!

Keeping my core warm does sod all for the temperature of my hands, and I can't be the only one.

The rest of me can be absolutely toasty on the bike, and my hands will be freezing. But it isn't that surprising as I can achieve the same thing sat at my computer with the heating on - hands like ice.

Muffs and heated grips, and I'm 'okay' - not roasting, but bearably chilly.

I’ve used Tucano Urbano neoprene muffs for the last 3 winters and highly recommend them. I’ve still got an old set of Oxfords that I used for years, but the Tucano’s are superior in every way.

This year I’ve supplemented the muffs with heated grips for the first time. That’s been very pleasant the last few days as it got chillier. Not perfect as there’s a little less room for my hands, but very nice on the motorway when it’s minus 2.

I use guards, I found muffs to intrusive and interfered with the controls.

So did I when I first used them - got used to them over time.

Also, poorer muffs like the Oxford ones around biggish hand guards I find don't really get in the way at all.

I've still got a set of muffs in the garage, I'll use them if my hands get cold enough, however 5 winters (2 of which commuting for nightshifts) with decent gloves hand guards and heated grips I haven't felt the need.

Again, oxford muffs are pants.

Tucanno ones are very good, warm and dry hands. Add heated grips for max pleasure.

I should probably look into getting some muffs or guards sorted out.

I've been riding the last 3 winters with my leather gloves with no muffs or guards. Think I should probably be a bit more pro active.

i got some muffs the other day, just cheapomatic tech7 ones.

not perfect, hands got cold, but less cold over 200 miles than they get over 20 miles without them. chilly but ultimately fine vs unbearable pain followed by probably nerve damage is a winner in my books.

once i get a new bike i'll get some heated grips to go under them and expect to be nice and comfy Smile

In don't see the point of guards as the wind will flow around the guards and onto your hands.

Hand guards on my Trackstar. My hand guards are fab! Cheapy Acerbis ones for £20, hands get cold, but nothing like as quick and fingers chilled as without them. £20 deffo well worth spent!

Muffs are far better mind. I just don't like having them on full time.

Bought some Toucano ones today so will be interesting to see how they are.

Best to still wear gloves or not?

Definitely wear gloves too! Although you won't necessarily need a heavy winter glove, a lighter glove could do the trick.
