I really really thought I would be riding away on my first 600cc bike today. Sat here sulking cos I didn't get to... Crying or Very sad

Sold my 125 a couple of weeks ago and had a bit of trouble trying to find any of the 600cc bikes I want over this side of the country (they all seem to be in the east and south, but not the north west!). Finally found a place selling FOUR I was interested in, just an hour away so went there on Wednesday. Three of them didn't really live up to expectations but one of them, a lovely red Fazer really got me excited.

The boyfriend has a Fazer so he took it for a test ride - I figured he would be better placed to find any faults. Sadly, he found one, it seems to be running a bit grumbly at lower revs when moving. They said they would take a look at it, get it sorted, put an MOT on it and to come back...

...So I went back today. Sadly after another test ride the problem appeared again Crying or Very sad They thought it might just be spark plugs so they popped to the shop and brought back some new ones for it, put them in. Still it was the same. Tried a few more things but we had to leave it in the end as they think it might be something a bit more serious.

I'm so gutted! It looks amazing! Not a scratch on it, really tidy bike, I hope it's just something silly and they find the fault, fix it, and the love affair can continue....

Question Any ideas what it could be? Best way to describe it is that it feels like you're moving in too low a gear, like it's going to cut out. Going fast it's fine, slow it's sounding rough, and idling it sounds sweet again. Question

Other than waiting for them to sort it out, the hunt goes on - Daryl, if you're reading this, you may get a visit from me yet!

I guess on the up side it's a good job it's a dealer and not a private seller cos if we couldn't have had a test ride then we wouldn't have found the issue. They seem to be well up for sorting it and don't want me walking away unhappy, with or without it, nice bunch of guys they were!

Gutted about the bike! I guess it's better than having it a week and then being stuck at the roadside though!

Does sound like carbs/jetting to me though

Yeah very true krarkol, best to find the problems now hey. I'm glad you've suggested that because the carbs is the next thing the mechanic is going to check Thumbs Up

I really hope they find something conclusive 'wrong' with it, I hate it when you end up trying all sorts and a problem never really goes away - I had it with my last car, never run right, no matter what we did, ended up getting a new one entirely!

P.S krarkol - I see you were out on your bandit for the first time today Wink Way to make me feel better Razz

Haha, if it wasn't for my sense-talking boyfriend I probably would have bought the first bike I saw, must be a girl thing, he keeps me grounded - you just need to be more firm Razz He doesn't understand why I even want one right when the ice is beginning to set in and I'm going to have to go to work in the car anyway, thinks I shall wait til spring, and my only answer to that is "Cos I want one, I'm excited, that's why, shut up" Laughing

Use the excuse "bikes are cheaper this time of year."

I'm far too soft with my girlfriend but then she wouldn't listen to me anyway lol

Probably needs a good spanking if it's been sat around for a while.

I see what you mean about there not being many 600s near where you are. Have you checked eBay though, there are a few within reasonable distance of Liverpool, some in dealers:
Fazers
Hornets

Yep, the bike probably does need a good spanking, it's been sat around with nobody to ride it for about 3 months, it's obviously a single guy... I'll have to show it a good time Razz

Yep, been keeping an eye on ebay every day, thats where I found the one I went to look at. Throw into the mix that I can't spend more than £1700 though and that slims it down a whole lot more Sad

You did a wise thing of not buying it with that issue on it, being stuck in traffic (well... sort of) especially with something you've just brought.

Usually when a bike that still uses carbs begins to spit and cough at low rpms its to do with fuel intake or air mixture.

Chin up, You'll be on it soon enough and hopefully on a road that doesn't have ice on it Smile

Fair enough. I would quite like a £7000 Triumph but my budget is currently about -£500 Razz

The road I live on has ice on every day in winter Confused That's what we get for wanting to live somewhere 'pretty' for a change Rolling Eyes

Yeah, it is horrible when things keep going wrong. My first 125, a suzuki gn, was fine until it's first MOT when it needed work on the exhaust for "excessive noise and blowing" or something like that. The bolts snapped so they had to drill/tap whatever it is they do and ever since it just kept falling to bits...eventually got rid for a few hundred quid and went and got a cbr125 to get me to and from work Laughing

If it runs smooth overall except for at certain rev ranges its usually due to the fuel and air, which is usually caused by the carbs as they regulate it Razz

Yep, first day on my bandit today. Made the most of it before the weather gets colder Laughing I understand your need to get a big bike asap. My original plan was to get one in January but I came across some money and I thought sod it, I've got my licence now! Twisted Evil

Speaking of relationships, I'd love a biker chick but the only ones round here are only into cruisers (genetic thing as their parents all seem to be part of MCC's) and they dress up like those japanese anime characters and it aint really my "thing" Sad

You've fallen for a great bike the Fazer. But there are loads of them so now you know what you want find a good'n. I have had cars and bikes with fueling problems and they never went away - had to sell. Buy a bike that's good to start with - there will be your own problems to face rather that inheriting someone elses as well! Bugger the winter - get riding girl - just avoid ice - ride above 3 degrees and you will be fine. For the winter heated grips are wonderful by the way! Have fun.

PS hang on to the boyfriend - he sounds what bike isn't....reliable!

Bargains are out there. Especially at this time of year. It's a buyers market. Smile

I have recently bought a Hornet with only 6K on the clock for £1700. Been out on it today and loved it.!

When I 1st got it she ran well but had been little used. I have had a few good runs now and it runs noticeably smoother.

Whatever you get and ride at this time of year wrap up with good warm gear. Remember you are doing this for fun and being cold while riding is far from being fun and can be dangerous.

Take care and enjoy. Keep us posted. Smile

Thanks guys, been keeping an eye out on ebay etc. again today, found another red fazer, almost identical in every way, so if I'm not satisfied with whatever the first guys do to fix this fazer, then there's a backup!

Had 2 weeks off work and REALLY wanted to be going back on my new bike. Cue sad face Sad Haha, oh well, I'll be happy when I get it eventually, just gotta make sure I don't spend the money on crumpets and crunchies in the meantime...

Oh and biker7 - you obviously know a good thing when you see one, this boyfriend sure is a keeper! 5 years and going strong!
