just double checking, as ive got a wad of paperwork for the cbt, theory, both mod pass certs, the test scores, and the new card & counterpart,

obviously i need the card & counterpart for future id/endorsement purposes, but do i need the other bits at all for any reason.

I would keep it all. You never know with the DVLA.

You will certainly need it if you throw it away, and you definitely won't if you keep it. Sod's law - the second option is easier though.

Yep, keep.

Also if you ever need to change your licence, stump up the £20 and say that you lost it. Then in the chance that the DVLA mess your licence up you can find the original.

Get a folder of sorts and keep all your insurance, tax, v5, licence, MOTs, receipts for parts/work done, speeding tickets, NIPs and other info in there.

I promise you that if you throw any of that out you will regret it 3months down the line.

Never, ever, ever, ever throw away any test certificate or previous license. Ever.

There was a fella at the test centre last month who had been riding for years upon years and the DVLA had mucked up his new card licence and 'lost' his bike entitlement so he had to retake the tests.

In other words, keep all of it

Just to echo. The DVLA are known to have "lost" categories off peoples driving licences on several occasions.

They of course, deny all knowledge and insist that they are correct unless you can produce evidence to the contrary. Said evidence being a pass certificate.

Upshot, keep all documentary evidence because the DVLA is run by dishonest, incompetant wankers.

I even go so far as to claim to have lost my licence when it's up for renewal/replacement/alteration so they just have to send me out a new one. This costs me £21 to do but I still have the old one on hand in case they make some sort of fuckup.

That said, apparently sometimes people get things added on for free! Might not bother with tests and 'misplace my licence' a bunch of times. Has to be cheaper than tests... Could do with an HGV licence too... Laughing

But yes, in seriousness, keep it all. I still have all my bits of paper from passing my car tests 5 years ago along with photocopies of my green licence. Can't ever be too careful with these muppets.

As said several times. Keep everything. Throw it into a folder and treat it like you would wage slips. (yes you should keep those too)

DVLA I would not trust not to lose the TV remote let alone my license details.

You can change the address on your licence online (for free). They then send you out a new one and ask that you send the old one back once you have the new one.

DVLA losing categories is no longer a problem because of that.
