Bike started up fine after not being run for a month at the unit I bought it from, the guy adjusted the idle screw to keep it going while cold and the revs where at about 3k when I got home about 15 min later. Ever since the 2nd day, it runs rough at idle and I thought the battery might not be helping as it was pretty much knackered. Fitted a new motobatt today and it's still doing it. Maybe some crap got sucked into a carb or there's condensation in the tank?

Don't know how to describe the noise so all I can say is that it's going

brrrrrr-bm-brrrrrrrrrrrr-bm-brrrrr Laughing

When I come to a stop and pull the clutch in, the tacho drops to zero then goes back up to 1k and sits there floating around a bit and i have to keep revving it slightly as it cuts out after 30 seconds or so if left like this.

When revved at a stand still the revs drop and hang around 2k then slowly go back to the barely running at 1k or below. I've adjusted the idle screw both ways but it doesn't really make any difference.

Just put a bit of redex in the tank hoping it will clear something out but not really got any hopes that it will, restrictors are going in this weekend so gonna take a look as I suspect a jet or 2 might be blocked.

Bike appears to have been stood a while as its a '98 model with 11,600 miles on it

Usual checks:

- Condition of spark plugs, boots and leads

- Getting good compression

- Check exhaust condition, holes, leaking, etc.

- Check fuel in tank for water

- Inspect filters - fuel/air

- Check carb rubbers for damage

- Give the carb a good clean

- Check battery terminals are tightened properly and nothing in there is corroded

If it has been stood then could be gummed up carbs. A nice long run could sort it, or a blast of carb cleaner.

It maybe an air leak somewhere, vac hose, carb rubbers, not having much luck at mo are you, I don't think redex will do anything, there is a chemical called wynns dry fuel which most bandit owners use to prevent carb icing, but shouldn't have anything to do with erratic idle. I'm not spamming but are you on the bandit forum.

Cheers Aff, Half the stuff on their I can't do though like compression checks and stuff Laughing I will get the mechanic to have a check when he fits my restrictors Smile

Matt B, I've given it a good blast over the last few days and it's no different Sad put a cap full of redex in about an hour ago and leaving that overnight, will put more in when I go to fill up the tank proper Smile

Ja7, I've got carb cleaner spray but the carbs will be getting taken off to have the restrictors fitted by a mechanic soon anyway so I'll get him to have a look as I may get the carbs balanced also Smile and nope, didn't think there was one, didn't google it Laughing

Getting your guy to check it all over when he pulls the carbs off is a good idea.

As Aff said especially check the carb rubbers etc for air leaks.
