hi does any one now how to find out which one i need for an nsr? i went into my dealer and he told me to get info on the chain not sure what to get though. cheers

It seems to depend how old your bike is. I did a google search and found this page, if that's any help.

Measure the width of the chain. Chain is chain, no matter what part number it has and who it was made by.

What do the numbers on the chain name mean? Length of chain must have something to do with it too, unless you punch out rivets to lose links to shorten it?

You need to get a split link for the chain you have on the bike ideally.

This may not be the original chain for an NSR, so best to have a look and see what brand names are on it.

Sometimes the chain size is stamped/etched on the side plates - look for a number like 520.


'5' is the pitch (distance between the pins) in 1/8's of an inch

'20' is the width of the rollers in 1/8s of an inch - but it is read as 2.0

So a 520 chain is 5/8 x 1/4 (5 x 1/8 and 2.0 x 1/8)

a 525 chain is 5/8 x 5/16 (5 x 1/8 and 2.5 x 1/8)

a 530 is 5/8 x 3/8 (5 x 1/8 and 3.0 x 1/8)

Hi

You need to know the exact make and model of chain. Different chains from the same make and of the same size sometimes use different diameter pins and the like so the split links are not interchangable.

its for a 2000nsr not sure what make the chain is will it say on the side?

It will probably say on the side of some of the links, but not always.

well it was in for repair at my uni and it got lost lol, considering there doing all my work for free i figure no point in complaining and just go out an get a new one. well i will go in on monday and i hope the info will be on thanks for your help

Hi

How old is the chain (miles wise). If it has done a fair few miles then think about replacing the chain and sprockets (~£40 for the parts).
