Howdy do BcF People.. Thumbs Up

Well.. after a bit of dancing around in the mini workshop, i accidentally spilt hot chocolate over my project stator Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

So.. now that other bike is gone, now i'm trying to decide over the SV650 or the GS500 for my Uni, Work and etc Commuting

I have considered the... GPZ500 & the Honda Bros & the Hyosung GT 650R and Bandit 600

In terms of fixing it..
If i can dismantle it there's 90% chance i'll be able to fix the problem.

Yes i have given all possibilities huge amounts of research time, thought and ergo-thinkage.

Spooky's Ergo's
6ft 5
14st
Loopy & Bendy

Mileage daily 28-30miles some days and 35-40 miles for work (that depends sometimes)
Honda Bros (Can't find one and not willing to travel FAR for a 400 regardless of its rep)

SV: Yea... Insurance is like 100 quid pcm, would keep it for around 5 months before the usual.
GT650R - i like it because its unusual but same insurance as the SV
(Understandable really)

Bandit 600 - Not sure how it copes low to mid rev's

GS5 Its weirdly comfy just like the ninja 500 but filtering on it, just isn't fun as its acceleration tosses salad unless i've played with the sprockets and etc
[Edit]
I have strongly considered the Ninja 250r, not sure how it is for commuting though

SO... Someone willing to offer any or little advice? it'd be much appreciated Very Happy

P.S please don't suggest a Enduro or those TDM Looking things, i have to be able to put the bike in "those" neighbourhood's theres a good chance i won't see it again if i went for a TDM or KLR

2 of the bikes I've had - Bandit and SV. The Bandit is a great commuter and handles some sprited riding well. Downside is its weight - easy to drop! The SV is a wonderful bike - light, loads of torque and good cornering. Not so good in start stop traffic or for carrying. The Ninja you would soon find under-powered. Test ride is a must - at least an hour. Find a dealer to do this even if you buy elsewhere Twisted Evil I would favour the Bandit but you might fall in love with the SV! Keep us posted.

Highly.
Appreciated.
Reply.

heh.. stop start traffic, as much as i'm going to receive negative feedback for this..
I try not to believe "traffic" exists..
Only opportunity to filter, lane spilt and filter until i hit a wing mirror.. Twisted Evil

But.. how is the bandit and/or SV during cross winds and general low speed manoeuvring?

(Every bike i build or buy, gets a fresh stator & R/R + Battery, force of habit)

I tip toe on my bandit and haven't found the weight that much of an issue really Confused

For a more experienced rider they'd probably say it's pretty week at low rev range but I've found it's powerful enough Laughing

Btw how old are you? £100 pcm for an SV650? Shocked The SV and the bandit were same on insurance for me which is £80 pcm and I'm 19, just got my licence and live in a high risk area!

They are quite different bikes really. The Bandit is more traffic friendly being an upright position - maybe better for filtering. That said, the lightness of the SV is a pleasure to nudge between gaps. I am talking SV sport here of course - the more upright version will have similar characteristics as the Bandit as regards crosswinds etc (not too bad at all really) I think rather than decide on a model - find a bike you like - the condition, colour, mileage, price etc might sway you. But once again - trust a test ride more than the advice of others... you are the one who will live with the machine, that makes you the real expert in your needs. If it helps at all - Bandits are more 'sober' bikes and quite a few SV's are found on race tracks. But either can be ridden soft or hard.
Oh, and don't buy until you are sure!

Green lane 16 to 18
17-20 riding everyday...literally..
Rain, snow, hail, thunder, monsoons, extreme distances on modified 125's & 200's.
Used to 1980s 850's though w/o restriction

i get my quotes from GoCompare as i really dont have time to go through all possible bike insurance companies Sad

20 y.o
1yr NCB
But behaving myself now as some people now know where i live Sad
So.. actually going to restrict it

Appreciate yer reply!

Again i highly appreciate your feedback.

Although, i have considered all of the underlining issues of price, motorcycle(steed) personality, and have narrowed it down to those bikes in my 1st post.

Though now it's between the SV and the Bandit..
Parts wise.. either i make it fit or get a colleague to buy parts for me.
I value your input so i'm leaning more towards the bandit

Yeah I used GoCompare to get a rough idea how much certain bikes would be as they seemed to be cheaper on average. I ended up saving £50 a year though with the same broker after I got a quote from moneysupermarket!

Just get it down to your last 2 favourites then spend an hour or so going through all the sites seeing which would be cheapest Smile

Insurance price wise, I think it may be the fact that I have 2yr NCB. Prices go to around £1000 a year when I put 0 or 1 year in.

Had to sort of lie about having 2 year NCB...my 125 pretty much has just 2 week left to renewal and I have a month to prove I'm restricted and have 2 years NCB so I just told them I had it Laughing

Bike choice wise, do you prefer the type of power delivery and sound of an inline 4 or v twin? If insurance is the same and both bikes are very similar handling then maybe that could help you with your final decision? Smile

I had an '05 oil cooled/carbed 650s and an 09 water cooled / 650S (faired both). If anything the older one sounded better but FI is usually better in the cold, though I never had any issues. The older Mk 1 and 2 (the earlier ones being 600cc) are well thought of by many and if you can get one in good nic, would be a great find. The Bandit forums are very good also. In hind sight I think a 1200/1250 would have been the ultimate goal - gobs of torque for not much more weight and so good that Suzuki still make them after all this time!
Best of luck - post a pic if you get one mate.
