A while back I had a rant on BCF about 123-reg and a 123-reg member of staff joined up to help me sort it out.

I've added a few more anti-spam measures to new user registration, as the amount of sweatshop-posted spam is getting rather ridiculous now.

Sounds sad but would it be just better to post the spam here there are quite a few threads that have been rated spam that are still left on the boards. One thread by 4 people another by over 8.

As I said, we should counter spam.

Surely it can't be too much effort to get a couple of big packet type envelopes fill them with sand or gravel or what not, and stick them in the post sans postage?

In that if it costs them virtually nothing to spam us, it should cost them other ways like this.

At the moment the extra checks are only on account creation. It's already blocking quite a few (see attached) but I want to monitor things for a while before I decide if it's too harsh / not harsh enough and whether to extend it to actual posts as well...

Any SPAM that still gets through - and inevitably some always will - please continue to accordingly. This is just meant to make the mods job a little easier in the first place.

Hi

One things I have noticed recently with a couple of forums I have is that spammers have been registering and not posting. Seems what is happening (from a bit of a read round) is that spammers have started to register on loads of forums without posting so they avoid getting onto the stop forum spam database for a while, and then post the spam once the registration checks are bypassed.
