I've seen the attitude of some members to threads about nodding, but it's not so much about the nods.

I have noticed more of them though (proportionally) as the bikers on the roads now are the non-fairweather ones.

Does the comradery go up in circumstances of greater perceived danger/discomfort, or are people just keeping their neck muscles warm?

Even if my bike is safely stowed in the hallway and I am 'at large' I still nod to passing bikers.

If it's snowing then I just shake my head in dismay/disapproval. Very Happy

I still nod (or do dat ting one does wiv the head) towards my fellow bi-wheeled pugilista of the elements

I always nod to fellow bikers, some nod back, most don't bother making me look like I've got terrets,

Hehe have a Karma Walloper, I was just reading the snow thread!

I doubt if I'm hardcore enough to go out in the snow, and the train stations are a stone's throw away from home/work so I don't need to..

Cold and miserable - I have yet to feel that, I'm still too chuffed that I can go out 90% of the year (my journey to work takes 25 mins at 30/40mph so I don't get much exposure).

I did a bit of nodding coming back today, mostly to silhouettes Smile

This does seem to be the case. I've gone past loads of other bikers in the past few days and nobody is nodding. Miserable fuckers.

I usually nod, unless the previously mentioned percieved danger is grabbing my attention more than usual

No that's not greater comradery nodding. It's violent body shivers due to it being ****** cold! Smile

Nodding. I'm too busy praying to the road gods that I miss the snow, ice and diesel that I can't see at night.

I wouldn't want to increase the windflow into my neck area, so any nodding will be subtle... Smile

i put it down to the non-fair-weather thing and nod back at the hardy souls

I nod in all weathers to anyone, but it definitely means more in 'off season' challenging weather. When it's painfully cold and I see a bike coming the other way I feel like I know him, 'cos he's obviosly made similar sorts of decisions to me in order to be there.

It's a Nod of Acknowledgment in summer.
It's a Nod of Respect in winter. Cool

Me neither. Obviously I feel a bit of a chill whilst I'm scraping the ice off the windscreen but once I'm on the move it's toasty.

starting to recognise the few bikers i pass on the way into work, seems to be the ones who don't nod don't ride when there's snow (this morning was pretty fun actually, getting the hang of shifting down gently when there's no grip)

I nodded to a bloke in a bike jacket waiting to cross the road, and he nodded back.
