The image link may not work, but the text should speak for itself, and I'm just wondering if it's even possible. It's one of these viral facebook things and I smelled bullshit straight away. Here's the text with the image:
_______________________________________
I do this all the time! I guess I won't be doing it ANY more !
A few days ago, a person was recharging his mobile phone at home.
Just at that time a call came in and he answered it with the charging Instrument still connected to the outlet.
After a few seconds electricity flowed into the cell phone unrestrained and the young man was thrown to the floor with a heavy thud. As you can see, the phone actually exploded.
His parents rushed to the room only to find him unconscious, with a weak heartbeat and burnt fingers.
He was rushed to the nearby hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Cell phones are a very useful modern invention.
However, we must be aware that it can also be an instrument of death.
Never use the cell phone while it is hooked to the electrical outlet! If you are charging the cell phone and a call comes in, unplug it from the charger and outlet.
_________________________________________
My reason for it being bullshit is that I figured there must be all sorts of things to prevent something like this happening? Plus the general resistance/smallness of the phone charging wire, fuses that should blow, etc etc. But I know nothing of the finicky things to do with electricity.
I mean sure, it happened to some extent in the photo, but should we all now be scared to use or phones while charging in our presumably quite safely built British homes? |

I've seen pics of a sat nav which exploded when the li-ion battery got too hot. Think it is possible? ____________________ Eat well, poo hard

Complete bullshit. The things that people believe on Facebook make me realise just how retarded a large proportion of my friends aquantiences are.
@Matray... Li battery exploding... yes. It kiling you? No. It blowing up because you used the phone? No.
I'd be more worried about the microwaves sent out by the phone by your balls than the batter. ____________________ 2004 R1 & 2018 XSR900 |

No. Mobile phone chargers have fuses, and houses have breakers specifically to prevent a surge from apower outlet into a device like that.
And even when they do fail, Li-on batteries don't explode like that. They overheat, and maybe spontaneously combust, but definitely don't explode. |

Looking at it from a slightly different point of view...
"He was rushed to the nearby hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.", fortunately there was just enough time to get him to pause for a couple of pictures. ____________________ current: ducati monster 750

100% true. This happened, don't know if the pictures are genuine. They had poorly insulated transformer windings and could land up sending 240VAC directly to the USB plug.
Dodgy chinese micro USB charger. I bought one from Farnell electronics and they did a 100% recall on them because of this. I'd bought one for my Raspberry Pi and i got a phone call off them.
Here's how seriously they took it. I was supposed to package it up and they were going to send a courier out to collect it and refund me the money. SInce it cost all of £2.99, I just threw it in the bin. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. FWIW on similar lines wasn't it some laptop batteries that would explode. Company had to do a recall and a lot of PR. Think it was DELL but doing a google tells me exploding batteries also in HP and Sony devices. ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

Cant imagine it's relevant - but the charger in the picture above appears to be a Euro / American type plug with no earth pin... don't know if that would make any difference?
