Hiya,
Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I can hope. I am desperate for a recommendation of some good waterproof trousers that are going to last more than 3 months! The last ones I got were from Halfords & supposedly proper ones but even they have split. Being a slightly 'larger' lady with rear end spread it's not always easy to find trousers.... Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions? Am sick of looking like I've pee'd myself and carrying spare clothes isn't always an option!

One other thing is how do I wash my Jacket?! I think I can take the armour pieces out & it says to wash on 30 but how do I make it waterproof again & will it bring the flourescent bits back up to how bright they were when I got it?! Gosh, I sound so thick lol.

Hopefully someone will have some suggestions for me so I can get shopping Smile

TIA

Donna

By chance had an email from GetGeared about their one piece waterproofs (see here).

However, looking at the site they have RiDE recommended trousers, Weise and Held, for £15.95 and £20.99. Click here for link.

That said I know on here Weise jackets have been reported as rubbish quality.

As for waterproofing Nikwax make reproofing stuff (I'm sure others do as well). Again on the GetGeared site here (as it was easy to post as an example as I was there - other suppliers, possibly cheaper, will be out there).

For washing your jacket, use Tech Wash instead of normal laundry detergent. Make sure you wash out any detergent still left in the draw before you put the tech wash in. Normal suds will remove the waterproofing.

Thanks guys some useful information & I have a Get Geared nearby... may pay a visit tomorrow...

It's just the seam that keeps splitting right down the middle - will probably buy a pair 3 sizes too big to prevent it! Will get some stuff to wash & rewaterproof my jacket too.

Thanks again x

after this week i've realised that "Waterproof" is one of the biggest lies bike clothing manufacturers use!
having to go commando at work was not good. Laughing

I would never "wash" a waterproof/goretex or the like jacket there never seem to be the same again even with the "correct" stuff, if you buy quality gear they should last 2-3 years of daily use, if you wear a full sleeved hi vis that takes most of the road grime.

I bought a pair of Frank Thomas Xti textile trousers back in January.

Have used them all year in some pretty horrendous weather and have found them to great at stopping the rain getting right through.

Didn't find the jacket as good though.

Also, as has been stated, tech wash in the washing machine. Plus try using nik wax spray afterwards too for extra waterproofing. Thumbs Up

The Mrs got me a couple of Spada waterproofs for Xmas in 2010. One for now, one for spare when the first wear out.

Still using the first pair, working well, and I've ridden 100+ miles in the pissing rain in them..only bit that got wet was because my boots were crap so water seeped in there and travelled up..not the fault of the trousers Smile

They're expensive but I got my waterproof jacket and trousers from Hein Gerrike, and they do larger lady sizes. They have took an absolute pounding in the rain and let no water in whatsoever.

this is the jacket:

And these are the trousers:

Damn, they're actually a LOT cheaper than when I bought em!

I have tried clothing from all price ranges and most brands and have found thatnothing is truely water proof. Some of the best gear I have found is from the building trade or fishing/boating, but again it is a hit and miss. The best jacket that I had was only about £60 and let very little water in ( the areas it was let down was around the neck) and the best trousers were only about £15 and lasted for a few years. The second best jacket was about £300 with the second best trousers being about £80. As for gloves, I haven't found one yet that will last a 80 mile ride in the rain on the motorway.

If you follow the washing instructions and use Tech Wash then you'll have no problems. I've used it for Goretex clothing many times with no ill effects whatsoever. Thumbs Up
