seriously?

im trying to "feel the christmas spirit" but quite honestly, it just feels like any other time of the year just a bloody lot colder.

the idea of giving and receiving presents is a bit.....well i hate it. all we ever give is TV box sets or movie boxsets and things like that because income is limited and honestly i feel bloody guilty about receiving gifts. every year i say "dont bother with anything, a card will be more than enough".

and i always felt like it was more important to just be arond the family than anything else.

so what the hell do you lot do to get in the spirit of things?

marm, i completely agree, i dont want anything to do with this bollocks but alas there is a kid involved so im stuck with it.

oh and been listening to xmas songs, im about to blow my frigging brains out.

for a "happy" time of year theres a fuck load of depressing songs around it.

I love it, awesome food, good conversation with my family, gifts, movies, music... Woohoo!!

I've spent £ 400 on gifts already and I'm not done yet.

Going to be awesome. Can't wait!!

I hate shopping though... Amazon ftw.

(Half expecting to get flamed for being happy)

I think hard about what to get everyone and I look forward to seeing the surprise on their face when they realise I've been listening to them during the year. Keep a record of any suggestions that pop up in conversations and usually pull of off quite well.

I enjoy giving, makes me feel good. Other than that its a freaking holiday where I feel I can do whatever the fuck I want. If I want to sleep at 1pm then i will, if I want to get drunk at 7am the that's cool too. It's just a no rules day... Love it.

Boy 1 wants a £55 football shirt Shocked

He'll be getting some bike gloves, simpsons episode guide and other bits and pieces.

Boy 2 wants money.
He'll blow it on booze, fags and getting a shag.
I'm going to give him a cheque made out to the passport office so he can apply for his.
this means he'll be able to come on some of my jaunts out to euroland.
It's the gift that keeps on giving.

I've spent a mint on my other half. Something she wants but thinks she won't be getting.

one way to do i guess.

i think i've had the same problem every year since i was about 10. that year i remember getting out the car outside the house and there was this massively thick fog that engulfed the whole street, you could barely see the street lights but there was just something in the air.

since then christmas has been pretty much "meh" progressing to "hibernating till its over"

Christmas is for kids and needy adults.

Which is to say, its an opportunity for kids to fill their boots and for adults to quell their guilt for not being around enough during the year and in a more general sense, to try and cement imagined cracks in relationships with material goods.

Other than that, its a massive waste of time. People in the office scrawl cards out and spray them around like machine gun bullets to all and sundry, never realising that by thrusting an unsolicited card that clearly has had no effort made on it into the hands of a person you barely know and who barely knows you, is actually worse than not sending a card at all.

It basically says:

"I'm sending you good wishes and festive cheer which I don't really mean as evidenced by this cheap card I'm using to convey them, and the poorly authored scribble I've barely taken the time to scratch out on it. Even although you didn't ask for this disingenuous note of 'good feeling' I never normally speak to you anyway, if I don't receive one in return I will embark upon an unspecified period of ill-humour and unreasonable moodyness when ever I see you."

The only interesting thing about christmas is the prospect of getting the office's only born again evangelical christian in the secret santa draw, so you can buy him a vibrator, a simulated vagina or a blow up doll.

Thumbs Up

PS: I actually have the office god-botherer for secret santa, any suggestions gratefully received, £5 limit. Wink

Back on topic.....

I hate xmas, maybe I've just got a miserable bastard gene but I hate the falseness and faux-happiness that abounds at this time. I quite like spending xmas alone, I can just chill out by myself and not have to worry about putting on a happy face for other people. This xmas I'll be alone in Copenhagen with my dad's gf's cat (they've both gone norway for xmas)

^That makes me sound far more depressing than I am, I'm usually one of the most upbeat people I know; however in situations where its 'expected' to be happy sort of make me miserable.

A question for you old uns, all my life (I'm 22) I've been hearing the same shit xmas songs every year - they never change. No new ones every come out.... What was on the radio incessantly in the days before all the ghey xmas songs we have been plagued with the last 18 years or so (just that I've been hearing them).

I love Christmas, I love the fact that people seem to be happy at what is normally a miserable time of year, I love putting thought and planning in to what to buy people as presents, concentrating on the thoughtfulness rather than chucking money at it.

It's a great excuse to get in touch with family and friends, and while I know you shouldn't need an "excuse" we all know that life gets in the way and time passes by so quickly between seeing people.

I love Christmas films, I love Christmas music, food n beer, I love advocat and Christmas is the only time to drink it really!

First Christmas with my wife this year, and I can't wait to share it with my kids in future!

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Christmas Hat Christmas Hat Christmas Hat Bounce! Bounce! Bounce!

I loath Xmas, I would be ok if it was just for a day or two like Eid but it starts in October and ends half way though January.
I will be locking myself away and learning to program a Pi.

My energy is zapped just trying to raise the Xmas spirits of my boyfriend without coming on here and trying to do the same to you lot.... meh, if you can't beat em, join em Rolling Eyes

To be fair, I wish less people were SO into the whole gift giving thing, I like the idea of just seeing something (any time of the year) and thinking "Oh that will be perfect for ..." and getting them it, regardless of whether it's Xmas or not. Purposefully trawling the shops desperately trying to find the 'perfect' gift for someone who does not need any more stuff is fucking miserable and I refuse to do it. If in doubt, buy something edible or drinkable, at least you lower the chances of it being chucked in the bin then Thumbs Up

Really not much a fan of christmas. The highlight this year will be the double time at work and chinese food.

We have a big family dinner of the first of January with all the extended family which is much better banter than christmas day.
