Approached a roundabout today on the bike. Saw a car coming to join the roundabout from my left but and slowed to give way... arse about face, maybe, but I knew he wouldn't stop... Reason. He had the sun in his eyes and didn't even see the roundabout, no way he would've seen me.

Sun visor was up and no sunglasses on. An all-too-typical scenario.

If I'd entered the roundabout it would've ended in tears.

Low sun at this time of year is a right PITA!

That's how fighter planes attacked, from the sun to blind their enemy pilot. Same effect with bikes, but we sadly dont have any machine guns.

I posted a while back about a cager killing a biker like this. Says he could not see the bike because of the sun while pulling out of a junction, and he got away with it.

I killed a load of ants around an ant's nest one day using the sun and a magnifying glass.

Its really annoying when coming into town heading west along by Billingsgate Market; all those big skyscrapers with mirrored finishes reflect the low sun lately ... and it really is blinding in the morning Evil or Very Mad

The number of road users who have no front lights on at all in low winter sunlight is shocking - do they not realise that they are completely invisible with the sun behind them - probably the same ones who think that they need their foglights on if they can see a cloud in the distance.

Last year, riding my DRZ, I found my enduro helmet was a lot better for visibility in winter conditions, as the peak blocked out the sun a little when I titled my head forwards.

So, a couple of months ago, I added a few strips of electrical tape to my Arai's visor - so that they finish just above my normal line of sight.

It's not ideal, and visibility is still impeeded if my visor's dirty, but I find it acts as an adequate sun shield, quite handy this time of year. Being electrical tape, I'm hoping it doesn't leave too much residue when I remove it next year. It doesn't distract from night riding either.

Actually I always thought the opposite was true, that using lights would cause you to blend in to the sun more!

For some reason the sun was on the same side as my shadow last week. My shadow usually fucks up in really low temperatures.

One thing that I have found in the mornings that really annoys me is...

I'm riding into the sun, I'm squinting and can barely see. A car approaches a junction wanting to turn into the oncoming lane, they are looking right at me and yet still pull out even though the sun is shining on me and I'm the one that's being blinded by it!

I'm a laid back guy but stuff like that makes me want to follow them to their work place and smack them around the face.
