How do you get on with strangers/acquaintances?
Do you enjoy small talk, or do you feel its just making noise for the sake of making noise?

I seem pretty traditionally English; it takes me a while to warm up to people but once I make a friend I've got them for years to come. I dislike, what seems to me, the sort of insta-matey behaviour I see with lots my peers in a uni-setting. My public and private personalities are pretty polar opposites; the former quiet and aloof, the latter loud and engaging.

While I'll happily talk for hours once engaged in a proper conversation about a good topic, economics, politics, science etc etc. Small talk rapidly leads to awkward silences with me not really sure what to say. My favourite people to talk to seem to me middle-aged professionals Laughing

I have very little time for it, I get LOADS of it in my job but for the most part I really struggle to stay interested.

If someones got something interesting to say i'll have a conversation regardless of how well I know them, but if it's just your standard shanchat i'd rather just be thought of as a cunt and spare myself the hardship.

As far as getting on with strangers though that's fine, there's no need to be rude to people, but when conversation becomes laboured it's time to call it a day.

Can't talk to new people. I have nothing to say. If they talk to me I'll give short and uninteresting replies. I just can't seem to manage it...

Once I've spoken to them once or twice everything is fine and I can talk to them like I've known them for years.

I'm fae Glezga, Glezga folk will talk to anyone.

(Except those posh folk from Edinburgh.)

Some folk don't mind a bit of random banter some struggle (become uncomfortable) with.

I don't see a problem with remaining Schtum or blethering away.

I meet people easy. They just bore me quick. Why socialise to be seen with people with nothing to say? I get invited to bike things and have to force myself to go.

I prefer the company of mates ive had for years. Were in the army together, and I know the man when hard times are there. New chommy chommy don't last. Old mates have outlasted any woman.

I find myself refusing more offers than I accept. I know what a decent mate is, and a good woman. I have little time for cheap imitations

Of my old friends, 2 died on the border, 2 since, 2 others now contractors in iraq and afghan. 1 in a police elite unit. 2 live close. Why waste my time with ignorant libtards who would run a mile if they ever had to serve on the border?

Small talk doesn't flow naturally from me, it just doesn't work. I can sit there and take it for a short while, but soon get pissed off and leave, or talk to someone I like.

I don't really like meeting new people; there is a 1/2 chance that they are of below average intelligence, a slim chance that they have the capacity for decent conversation, and an infinitesimally minute chance that they will exercise that capacity with something actually worth saying. Also, I already know enough people and most of them are arseholes. So no, don't tend to do small talk with strangers.

My pet hate type of stranger to talk to is actually another motorcyclist. They bore the living shit out of me 9 times out of 10. Yes bikes are fast, no I don't do bike meets, no I don't want to see a picture of your bike, no I don't want to go for a ride.

Now the banter just ain't how I roll yo!
My sense of humour (which I'd like to think is reasonably refined) just isn't wired up for banter at all. I spent the weekend at a uni shooting competition; while I can easily hold my own when actually chatting about gun stuff, the general hurr-your-mum banter going on went straight over my head.

Hairdeessers, if they don't call themselves barbers, are faggots trying to chat you up, feeling your hair and trying to get their dick close to you.

I cut my own hair rather than pay a faggot.

Rather kick them in the chin and find a proper barber.

I have f all to say to a queer as we have nothing in common.

He's talking about women, hairdressers is what we call them here sometimes you fascist cunt

1) At least call them gays krad, a queer is someone who doesn't identify as a particular gender, usually described as being androgynous

2) really? Nothing in common you say? Lets see.. you enjoy the company of familiar and time trusted men, as do gays... You sling about stereotypes and cast judgement on those that don't deserve it, so do most of the queens I know... Not shy to voice an opinion or cut someone down at a moments notice, same for the queens I know...

Still think you have nothing in common with gays krad? Wink

Fess up - you're really a gay black man aren't you?

Gay??wtf? Gay means happy. You can be happy without being a homosexual. Where does this gay term come in? What is so happy about being a homo?

You must be tired form carrying around those massive chips on your shoulder

Are you happy krad? You have a lot of hate for a happy person

As for small talk I feckin hate it but have to do it constantly
It only really gets awkward with hot shy girls, they just don't give anything to the conversation it's like milking bricks

If anyone draws Krad in the BCF secret santa - it has to be a Stephen K Amos DVD. Better still - tickets to one of his shows.
