Have you ever thought of selling your last bike?
For me, I was thinking selling mine because
-I'm too busy for other hobbies and have nearly no time to ride during best season for bike. My 2008 TDM is 5000miles only on the clock.
-My spending on hobbies get higher and higher and my income is slightly going down.
-I was just before MOT timing which costs me 80k yen(£600) per 2years.
-My TDM wasn't popular here and wasn't selling at good price(nearly half the new price) If I'd get 600kyen, I'd sold it.
Overall I decided to pay for MOT, and I will have it for another 2 years.
But on the other hand, if I sell it once, I need to pay a lot more to regain it.
But I am always worrying about my low saving amout compared to my colleagues. How can I live when I retire? etc.
But I stopped worrying about it for a while, maybe postponed it.
p.s. my other hobbies are
1) video camera man for female softball team I support, I go everywhere with the team and film it and give the data to the team.
(which costs me a lot for traveling and hotels)
March to October are season, I can't ride my bike this season.
2) bowling which costs me a lot too.
I think most of you BCFers have 1st priority on biking, I may be the minority here, but have you thought of selling your last bike?
How did you decide to keep it or sell it? ____________________ own:2020 Serow 250

I don't really ride for fun and frankly have better things to be spending my cash on than motorcycles.
If you don't need it, can't afford and don't enjoy it enough to keep it then selling it seems like a good idea. |
Yep, if you're not getting that much fun out of it and can't really afford it then why not sell it to someone who will? |
Yes selling may be more rational for me considering what I am paying for what I am enjoying. Deleting fixed cost on my bike might be more important compared to the disappointment on the price if I sell it.
I think I must reconsider within next 2years. ____________________ own:2020 Serow 250

If I decide to sell it, is it better to wait until it gets warmer than in winter? (for the price) ____________________ own:2020 Serow 250

You could put a tent on the back of the TDM, then use that to travel and sleep in the tent while filming the games - that way the bike would actually be SAVING you money .
(To be fair, I expect there'd be issues wild camping in the more densely populated parts of Japan and not sure even how many campsites there are.) |

I returned courtesy bike (kawasaki 250TR) and got my TDM today.
They greased up and polished, everything was perfectly serviced. I rode 250TR and noticed how cold an unfaired bike is, how slow 250 single is. I felt TDM like a comfy locket. I must thank my courtesy bike was 250TR.
I think I will keep this bike and won't sell it. I will ride short range many times from now on ____________________ own:2020 Serow 250

I'm thinking of selling my bike at the moment. I don't want to but have been having back problems for the last 10 months and riding is now too painful. Plus my Physio has advised I don't ride as it won't help my back get better.
So it looks like I'll be trading it in for a car in the near future. Trouble is its not really a great time of year to be selling a bike ____________________

TBH if I had to use my own vehicle to get to work and commute then id sell both my current car and bike. The bike is not really an issue as it's in bits and isn't costing me anything to run sat in the shed. But it would struggle to top 35-38mpg, being a 200cc 2smoke. Apparently it's not fashionable or cool these days and almost socially unacceptable to have a vehicle that cant do 50mpg+ car or bike!
The car does 20mpg, and it aint exactly a commute friendly cage with the silly all or nothing clutch, 2.75" ground clearance and rock hard suspension.
TBH all my vehicles are primarily for my enjoyment, social and leisure use and occasional get me to work on a sunny summer day type useage.
I don't fancy having to run a car to drive to and from work, as driving is boring and stressful, so if I only have to do it when I fancy a day out or to a show/track day etc then great. If my car useage became daily id get very bored quickly. I have in the past used bikes for commuting to work/college etc, but normally have had the option to either cycle or use public transport as well.
Id not sell my bike/car if I could keep affording to run them for occasional fun and fancies, but if I needed transport to work and couldn't afford to keep them, then id sell both and buy a train pass instead. Much less stressful taking the train IMO.
Lastly out of all the things I own, my mountain bike would be the last to go after my car and bike, as it's more fun than either most of the time, and without any of the responsibility which suits me better tbh! |
