Would it be as racist if the pricing was in reverse?

Of course, the pricing discrimates on the basis of race (whatever order) that's pretty much the textbook definition of racism.

It's about as stupid as having a pricing chart based on the color of your hair/eyes etc ie fuck all to do with ability to pay of any semblance of fair pricing.

I'm sure some enterprising native american woman can get all the cakes, then resell them to white folks for $1.90!

Quote:

On Monday, March 28, the GWU chapter of the Young America’s Foundation (GWYAF) and the GW College Republicans (GWCRS) hosted an affirmative action bake sale. The satirical event took place in the Mid-Campus Quad from 11am-3pm and University Police were present. Baked goods were sold and the group raised $47.00 for the troops at the event.

A price list posted charged different amounts based on the race of the patron. The point was to show how offensive it is to base anything, like admissions, on race. The prices were as follows:

Asians – $1.25 (Asians being the most negatively affected by affirmative action), Whites – $1.00, Latinos – $.75, Blacks and Women – $.50, and Native Americans – $.25.

Quote:

However, all baked goods were sold at the “Human Special” of $1.00 regardless of race, gender, background, or belief. Some of the homemade signs held by the students said, “Affirmative Action is Racist” and “Racism is Always Wrong.

TBH it reflects what Krad says that with affirmative action it discriminates against others.

I'm guessing its an equality rally and they're making some kind of point about the relative earnings in the US. It's clearly done to make a point rather than actually selling cakes...

Having said that, the elephant flag draped over the thing is a republican flag so could be anything...

The link that fatpies posted explains, and it is to point out how "positive discrimination" is not positive at all.

Errr, no, it's the Republican thing. "Positive" is to "discrimination" as "consensual" is to "rape".

It's a valid point, well made.

Different rates for different race groups is normal here. Whites pay more. Years back we formed what we called the flat rate society asking that whites pay the same rates as blacks. Whta happened is that whites had metered consumption of lights and water and high property rates. Blacks had a flat rate. All the water you can use at one fee. And free power up to a certain amount. After that, they wre charged but a so many of them didnt pay the city had a big debt that whites had to subsidise with higher rates. if blacks dont pay they dont get cut off. If I miss one month they cut me off.

What we did is we got a lawyer, we paid the flat rate same as blacks, then we gave a cheque marked 'for electricty only', so we couldnt be cut off. With that we all submitted a letter each month stating we are paying the electricity under protest not to be cut off and want to pay the same rate as the other residents of the city. We won in the Supreme Court on the ruling of discrimination against our race. It was overturned by teh consitutional court under the ruling yes it is discreimination but not unfair discrimination. So there is such a thing as fair discrimination?

We then had to pay the outstanding rates, but I had saved the difference every month anyway.

Whites getting discriminated against in SA? My my, how the tables have turned! A SA friend of mine still flies the old flag for various reasons. I wouldn't say he was racist...but nationalist if that's the right word to use.

we always paid more, even in the old days. Like school fees, we had to pay for water which blacks got free etc. I wouldnt say he was racist either: just a realist Mr. Green

I still have the old flag in my house. The only problem with the old one is the union jack on it Mr. Green . The new one looks like Winnie Mandela's G-string Mr. Green

the same discrimination applies to our schools:

Quote:
Unfortunately, because in official eyes these schools were still perceived to be rich, white, ‘ex-Model C’ schools, they have received no state assistance since 1994 other than the salaries of
most teachers.

We have to pay ever increasing fees for school if you live in a white area.
