(Apologies if this has been posted before)

Is this a future mass production item when they get cheaper.

so, you lean into a corner and it stands the bike up?

Can't see that being very popular tbh

Still won't stop you running out of mechanical grip, or getting severe understeer/front end washout, as the bike makes every effort to stay upright.

Seems to me it's just a cleverer version of the Carver, which it's still very possible to crash.

inherently yes, providing you've got enough inertia and grip to counteract the turning forces.

basically, like those horrid BMW thingies, but at least it's got doors.

I expect it would lean into corners to counteract the force pushing it out from them.

Although I would be nervous as it's obviously computer controlled - a crash would likely cause a crash!

Or.. it's not a case of an elephant pushing it over, but a little bug!

I posted one of these some time ago.
Consensus was that the forces in a crash were likely to be considerably more. It might help stop a lowside, but if that turns in to a highside or one of your wheels hits a curb, much less likely.

Also, why do they always insist on making these things fully enclosed?

It would give much more of a bike feeling if it was open sided, Quasar style, which could have the side effect of making you more aware of your speed, stopping you from pushing too hard.

Put a more interesting engine in and I'd have one like a shot.

Finally, I can have the bike out of Akira Drooling

Handbrake turns... Cool

Suspect it would look like it was having a fit if ridden on ice.

A baby elephant weighs from around 115kg (at birth) according to google. So. actually not a massive amount - certainly when you consider the road is full of 1.2-2t vehicles, and quite a few equivalent to many full sized elephants.
The 'test' they show in no way replicated most real world accidents - gentle acceleration at best.

It's essentially a car for one person. It fits its intended purpose perfectly - "cutting the car in half" because 70% of people apparently travel in their cars alone. The safety and comfort of a car, with the convenience and efficiency of a bike. A great idea but sadly I can't see it taking off because of the dominance of the car industry.

Don't think I've ever seen a test that accurately replicates real world accidents, each one is a special little snowflake and utterly individual. Hard to do that in a lab environment Laughing

I've no doubt whatsoever there will be a great deal of time and money spent making the shell fairly robust, just look how much punishment the little boxes sold by Smart can take. Add in Google Glass or those new contact lenses and we can all feel like extras from Ghost in the Shell or somesuch. It's only a matter of time until we see flying jet bikes as well Very Happy

Great bikes are invented on the track not the car park. That is a car park bike.

Efficeny wise, cars tend to be better aerodynamically than bikes. I doubt this is much better than a decently aerodynamic bike.

For filtering it's pretty wide, so you'll probably only be doing it on motorways.

Safety wise, I like that you get thrown off a bike - pretty sure that's saved my life at least once (the bad racing accident).

Overall, seems to just be a big 'gimmick', though possible something like this could attract some car drivers - but would it really be better than a small electric car in most circumstances?

Tarmacsurfer:
They could certainly do some better testing as other vehicles where the user is contained would have to do. If cars just had to be dragged sideways a bit by an SUV I don't think we'd have seen the advancements in vehicle 'safety' we have done!

I'd ride / drive one just for the novelty value. I like the idea of driving something a bit mad that people stare at and aren't quite sure if it's being used in a film shot or not Laughing

How many people have read about it?

It's electric powered, such technology is far better than the media lead us to believe - I just hate it because it deprives you of that raw engine noise.

It's designed to 'stay upright' while parked, there's not been any noticable advertising of it's drive/turning yet - not sure how the gyro system works with cornering.

It's only usable to full bike licence holders.

It's a bike with a safety shell and steering wheel.
I don't like it.

You know what? I'd be interested in having one in addition to a bike, but not in place of.

This just seems like the bike for people who want to take more risks but don't actually like the danger of bikes and prefer cars. Would do the fair weather rider (guess that is its main market). The ones who cry because they get wet (dust on their chrome).
