It does make sense for hill climbing, until you get to the standard sized swingarm.

Ok, well this is what gets me though.

Assuming it was a road legal trail/enduro bike and not an MX'er, then why would having an IL4 powered enduro bike be pointless?

You can go out and buy rediculous big heavy so called adventure trail/dessert bikes, like the BMW R1200GS or KTM 950 adventure/dakar style bikes, and these things always weigh around 200kg or alot more.

But people take them off road and not only that but they use them quite hard for fairly serious off roading etc.

So why can't a 3 or 4cyl 600-1000cc sportsbike engine be used for a factory enduro/dessert/adventure bike? I would think a Re-tuned R1 engine would be much lighter than the XTZ1200 engine, and do the same job but save quite a few kilo's at the same time.

I've never understood why serious smaller enduro bike that are used say 60/40 off- on road always typically have to be a single cylinder lump of between 250 and 650cc either?

I've always liked the Aprilia SVX550 and the concept behind it of having a multi cylinder but compact and light engine integrated into a full competition suitable enduro or supermoto chassis.

Just found this old thread ,

i am the owner of this bike , and have put it up for sale again on ebay ,

it is not pointless , it was built as i had the spare parts and know how to biuld it , and a for fun as never seen another like it apart from hill climb bikes

I used to have alot of open space/land to ride in have tried most of the big singles cr500 /ktm525 xr600 crf etc.. and don't like the big duel sport type of bike as didn't want a road legal bike

in big open fields/straight line all the above get boring very quick .

when this machine is perfect , it cable of going faster than you could ever need offroad , where as the cr500 and ktm run don't like the top speed runs

looking to to deal on a 125 mx bike or anything else cash either way if any one's interested ,
