I appreciate they are not going to be as good as a set of £600 leathers. But as an entry and first set of leathers, would they be any good?

You're better off going with second hand IMO. Those look thinner than paper even in the spruced up studio ebay picture.

Hein Gericke do decent leathers for reasonable prices, they usually seem to have two piece suits for about £300.

I'd never buy no brand leathers. Just couldn't trust them. There's enough problems with the big names having stitches coming out in an off etc.

They look pretty terrible. Go secondhand or for a clearance bargain. My BKS ones are an end of line jobbie, they stood up to a fairly large crash very well indeed.

Cheers guys, I think I knew this deep down but I'm struggling to find any secondhand. I won these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mens-2-peice-revit-motor-bike-leathers-/300828176153?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&nma=true&si=8lr22ljswZX6BbZdEILTLqJDL30%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
But they didn't meet the reserve, he wants £150 which for me is to much.

See if they meet his reserve, if they don't offer him what you will pay for it.

If not, its not the best time of year to be wearing leathers anyway so just be patient, more will come along! Very Happy

I did, I was the winning bidder, offered him 80 but haven't heard from him.

I'll just wait till spring I reckon and stick with the textiles.

No, keep an eye out now and save a search, theoretically now is when it should be cheapest!

It doesn't help that the sizes blow my mind. 6'3, 34 waist and 34 leg and the sizes are all over the shop!

Any reason that it has to be a "2 piece suit"? That's just a matching jacket and trousers. Keep an eye out for individual pieces, you'll have a better chance of matching your body shape anyway. Worse case, you'll get to pay a local alterations place to sew a matching zipper in.

+1 that

I got my RST two piece for just over £200 from when HG were on their way to closing down, and from J&S who do a fair bit of a kickdown from the rrp (www.jsaccessories.co.uk/)

recently, there were some pretty cheap jackets going at the Triumph outlet website...i know there was a leather jacket going for £50.

Just keep an eye out for any sales on, or scout around on ebay.

Have a look here...https://stores.ebay.co.uk/E-BS-BIKE-SPARES/MENS-MOTORBIKE-CLOTHING-/_i.html?_fsub=2878668011&_sid=752688331&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322&clk_rvr_id=424717650865

Mostly only smaller jackets left but you may find some trousers. I've bought from him and his descriptions have been accurate.

I bought two random bits of gear and they zipped together anyway. 100GBP for FT jacket/trousers.
Even if they don't, you can probably get the zips installed on both pieces for sub 50GBP if you actually care that much.

Though, I really don't consider bike jackets/jeans to be _that_ necessary. Write a priority list of places you want protected if you fall off.

1) would probably be your head. A brain injury can just straight up kill or permanently mentally disable you.
2) would personally be my back. Total paralysis possible here. That said, I don't wear a back protector. Perhaps I should?
3) would be my fingers. Quite vulnerable and you're not that useful without them.
4) broken bones. The younger you are, the less this matters, but you won't always recover to full capacity.

Stuff like road rash seems like it's pretty low priority to me. I mean, if you don't get infected, what's the big deal? Your face is protected, your hands are protected. If my legs get scarred I'll look a bit of a pillock if I wear shorts. Come on now.

All that said, I still wear the gear every time I go out simply for comfort. Jeans and anything above 40mph is just bloody cold 95% of the year.

I just think it's odd to spend daft amounts of money on it unless you go track racing often.

These are going for a decent price at the moment:

I'm sorely tempted myself...

Look here too https://stores.ebay.co.uk/E-B-C-Leathers-Motorcycle-Clothing

Last time I was in J&S (Doncaster store I think) they had a sale rack at the back of the store with some old stock bargains - 1 piece suits for £100. They also had a load out the back, not on show, that the guy got for me to look at, would have given me 10% off that price as well when I pushed him. It is worth asking if you can't see anything.

Head
Hands
Elbows
Ankles
Knees

Not good to break bones, but clean breaks are probably not too bad (mind you, I've never, to my knowledge, broken a bone in my life). But joint damage is something that lasts for years, if not decades, potentially the rest of your life. I've twisted both ankles, rolled and rotated backwards, sandwiched between bike and road, at ~20mph speeds, and my right still hurts 8 months on. My right wrist occasionally hurts too, from punching the road with it.

Road rash can be painful, but if you're not the bikini-wearing type, you might wear the scars with pride. I have a couple of pink patches from light rash, nothing major though. But gear is worth wearing just for the armour, rather than abrasion resistance.

The faster you go, the more important abrasion resistance is. I've fallen off wearing just a t-shirt at city speeds, rash from that is very minor.

Impact is a big factor so sometimes full leather isn't needed - I wear kevlar denim with knee protectors most of the time.
When I do track days I wear a 1 piece because the chances of abrasion related slides are so much higher.
Best to wear clothing appropriate for what you are doing I suppose.
