so we're looking at remodeling the flat next year so we can have/adopt a child.

heres what i've put together.

https://i813.photobucket.com/albums/zz55/reeve1987/flat1raw5.jpg

https://i813.photobucket.com/albums/zz55/reeve1987/flat1raw.jpg

this model basically moves the bathroom, kitchen and creates a new bedroom.

the kitchen was where the bathroom is
the bathroom is where the second bedroom is
the new kitchen area was basically used as an office.
the area with the sink is actually a "breakfast bar" type area. the washing machine is under the sink
living room is as it is (decor exlcuded)
master bedroom is as it is (decor exlcuded)

just wanted to get some oppinions on the new layout.

having the back door in the bathroom isnt ideal, but its better than having it in a childs bedroom.

our landlord will fully reimburse us for the expenses so thats not a problem really.

The most likely place for a fire to start is the kitchen so it is a bad idea to have the kids bedroom where you would have to get them trough the kitchen to get them out. imo.

that was my first concern, but the back yard has street access in a pintch.

also we're getting all the doors replaced with firedoors and a mains smoke alarm thing installed. we're also incredibly careful over things like that.

that said, it can still happen. but the concern is being addressed.

we're going to talk with the landlord about the addition of a door from the master bedroom into the bathroom

Or put the door to the master bedroom all the way to the right of that wall so you or a kid don't have to go all the way trough the kitchen to get to one another.

If you are serious, and i sincerely hope you are not, redesigning your rented flat is way down the list.
You need to sort things like job, finances, family and friends willing to help with childcare and issues, ability to move child around (like, a car) and so on. Never mind the strength of relationship and the stress it might put on you.
Children are not pets, they don't come with a receipt and you cannot treat them like a fad that you "might like to do".
I seriously don't think you have the strength of character at your point in life.

not a bad idea paddy.

stuntman, this has been something on the table for best part of a year now. its the right time apart from the work situation. could it be better? sure, could have a good job and financhially secure for life but you take what you can get. it wont affect the kid either way and actually having a kid is at least a year away still.

Beat me to it.

An obvious ploy to court the 'I'm a gay man and I demand my right to children' rhetoric wrapped up in a spurious home design project.

I can't really add to what's been written above so won't bother...

It is on topic. You are remodelling your home in preparation for moving in a child.

No-one in their right fucking mind is going to let you adopt a child, no-one in their right mind should offer to provide you with one. You're jobless, absolutely brimming with fag-rage and cannot take any personal responsibility for anything whatsoever.

It's all relevant really.

It only warrants a "flame/abusive rating if it's not fact btw. Mr. Green

much like your going to get. you have no idea what the hell your talking about you silly little man.

what the fuck is your problem anyway?

and it goes off topic the second its got nothing to do with the remodelling. the fact its to open up a second bedroom for a child is nothing to do with it and it is off topic as i didnt ask for comments about anything other than the remodelling design itself.

why did you mention the child then, dingbat?
I know, because you are trying to create some drama. As usual.

I couldn't agree more. I'm not homophobic (please see my post in the Krad hijacked sociability thread).

I've never been homophobic to you or any gay member in here (or in real life).

I think that gay people have the absolute right to have children providing they meet the same level of reasonability that I would also ascribe to heterosexual couples...

I just don't think that it is right that an unemployed person with no income should think about bringing a child into the world and expect me to pay for its upbringing. I also think that you lack the requisite maturity, staying power and level headedness for parenthood.. HTH Thumbs Up

Are those walls structural? If so and it doesn't blow the budget to smithereens you could do a lot better with some proper floor plan shuffling.

Also, move the medicine cabinet and sink round to the little east/west wall to the right of it and you could box that back door out of the bathroom altogether making it part of the 'breakfast bar' instead.

A job, stability and being in good financial health should be a prerequisite to bringing a child in to the world, even more so for adopting one.

I'd even go so far as to say that by not waiting until you've done that, you are deliberately putting your child at a disadvantage.

But then again, that all adds to the drama doesn't it.

Of course the child has something to do with it. One issue to do with fires and rescue plans has already been raised concerning the layout when it is being designed with a child in mind. If you were remodelling the extra room with a games room/hobby room in mind then that wouldn't have even come up.

Idea

edit: Just to add, I'm not homophobic either. If The999Kid had posted the same question, he'd have no problem getting proper answers relating to the question. But he has a stable, professional job, comes across as polite and helpful and I've never seen him go absolutely fucking batshit on the internet, never mind on multiple occasions. You believe people pick on you because you're a homosexual. They don't. They pick on you because you're a drongo.

HTH Very Happy

Altering whilst renting; a big no no,
You will quickly be told, where to go.

You have no sense, along with no job,
All you have is a fucking big gob.

Now adopting a child is not a bright idea,
It's not your right because you're a bum loving queer.

So again to us all, Usually Wrong,
You've simply shown that you're a fucking great mong.

unfortunatly the only structual wall is the long top wall, second bedroom walls and bathroom walls. oh and the livingroom chimney and window walls.

rest are plasterboard.

How are you re-locating the soil pipe for the toilet?

wouldn't it just be easier to move to a bigger flat?

The best thing about all of your posts is how ironic it is that your username is 'Usually Wrong'.

I'd also like to add that I'm only 21, work full time with overtime and commission available AND some savings behind me. Even I wouldn't consider having a kid and I'm financially stable and in good health.

Do you even realise how expensive kids are? Saying "It's a year away yet so being unemployed isn't a problem" is one of the most immature things i've ever seen someone write. How are you going to afford to knock walls through with no money, it's not exactly cheap either.
