Well, I mean why would you treat women as equals?

you will never see a woman Pope so religion is always going to see women as inferior after all god is conceived as masculine and jesus was certainly male
as were all his gang (bible calles them disciples)
most religions are based on male's Allah, Buddha etc

Told you so: give them the vote, and they start to believe that they've got souls. Rolling Eyes

Isn't that an Aretha Franklin song?

The vote in the House of Laity, at 64%, was just short of the required majority - six more "yes" votes were needed...
Democracy and 2/3 majority eh!

Gautama Siddartha (AKA Buddha) never considered himself a god, merely one that had become enlightened and he maintained that EVERYONE could achieve enlightenment, man or woman.

It is organised religion that is the anachronism.

As for Christianity, how often have you seen an idol or image of a Christ that is not white, yet he almost certainly would not have been. Classic spin from organised religion.

The latest farce from the Synod just emphasises the manipulation of religion through church by Man rather than the will of a super-being.

I cannot subscribe to an organised religion and my own 'Buddhism' is more a secular following of the Dharma teachings.

It is interesting that the CofE has been bemoaning the decline in church attendance and then goes out of its way to demonstrate how out of touch it is.

The weird thing from what I gleaned from watching interviews etc. was that were as many women AGAINST women becoming bishops as were for. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

I refer you to the original argument against giving womyn the vote: it just means that their husband gets two votes.

That's a true TRUEFACT.

Why do you assume they view women as inferior? It's a rule, that's all it is. Since it's religion they don't have to justify it. In fact, why should they have to justify it to joe fucking public when it's none of joe's fucking business?

Just read the bloody bible. It is quite clear that women are to be subservient and beholden to men, are weak and inferior.

Not read the koran but from what I gather it is more of the same.

And most of the devotees don't even read the rulebooks they profess to hold so dear!

It's funny how they deride "fundamentalists" but the fundies are the ones that actually bother to actually pay any attention to what a religion actually follow the rules set down.

It seems all we do these days is argue the toss over what opinions people should/shouldn't hold. Is there really nothing more interesting to talk about?

We're twisting 'modern' into a concept that's completely seperate from its' original meaning.

Modern just means new/not historical. It doesn't mean 'better'. Why should our current set of rules be 'better' than the last set?

Assimilation. If you don't agree, you're wrong. You're 'no longer relevant'. Hell, maybe we'll even stamp out your views (see laws against racism, for example).

Exactly.
It's all newspeak.

'Modern' = 'Right'. 'No longer relevant' = 'Wrong'.
'Fundamentalist' = 'Terrorist'.

Words have well defined meanings. I'm fed up of this nonsense, trying to shut down arguments by simply confusing language.

Adam was made in the image of God. He was lonely so God thought he should have a wife so every animal in existence was shown to him so he could choose one to be his wife, none were good enough.
*Here's the magic*
God put him to sleep, took a rib and built a woman from Adam's rib.

This is why people thought men had 2 fewer ribs than females. Adam is the son of God (Men), Eve (women) are daughters of men.

So men are to women how God is to men.

Religious nutters!

EDIT

In addition I'd have loved to have lived in biblical times, at the battle of Jericho, there was a war with IIRC 1,100,000 on just one side. Context is that in 2010 the US had 1.46 million service personnel.
War must have been s much cooler.
OH AND!! there was another war with similar number and the bible says that each person were fed with quails, something around 30 a day. needless to say! there were a shit load of quails in the middle east at one point!
